hey guys need some advice with doing a leaf over in the rear of my 73 series land cruiser and fitting a ladder bar was wondering would the mounting position of the ladder bar would make an affect on how the suspension travels any advice or measurements would be really appreciated

You mean a Spring Over Axle [SOA]? If you get no answers here go to the 40 section, there's an abundance of SOA's there and read up. I'm sure the concepts are the same.

has anyone got any advice or can you point me in the right direction :bang:

You want it as close to the centre (left/right) of the axle as possible.

You need to allow for changes in length of the spring (ie: place a shackle on the forward end of the bar).

You want to ensure that you build very strong, gusseted braces to the axle housing.

DO use rubber or poly bushings on the axle end, and very strongly suggested on the front (frame mounted) end as well. Heim joints/rod ends are not good medicine and will lead to breakage and noise.

There are lots of designs online, generally avoid designs that use the spring pack in place of one of the links if you are going to use a linked design.

Nay, you're in the right place. I've been running Spring Over on my BJ74 for almost 8 years. I don't use a ladder bar because it induces a lot of squat into the suspension dynamics. So I built something called a Bam Bar. It controls wrap without squating, however it also puts a lot of strain on the leaves, and I have twisted leaves now. And it's still squatty. I am not a fan of leaf springs. Off road performance is stellar, but the on-road manners are kind of boat-like.

Honestly, Spring over is the 'usual' stepping stone that we all go through before we just link the suspension like we should have in the first place. I would highly recommend that you skip this step, and get busy designing yourself a 'real' multilink suspension. It's not really that hard.

ok thanks i was planing on running xlink in the front with radious arms out of a 79 series then fit the x link ill have to give the triangulated 4 link a go ?
