Are you asking in theory or are you asking if anyone has done so?Is it possible to hack into and use the LC’s multiple cameras to record like a dash cam?
I guess I’m asking both. I am curious because the wife’s LC was in a minor accident a couple weeks ago. The guy hit her on the side by the passenger side mirror. Front passenger door, running board, quarter panel, mud flaps and wheel damaged. I don’t know of any $50 dash cams that would show that angle. It’s not about being cheap. If there was a way to be able to have all the angles that the cameras cover recorded with a clean setup would be nice. Also not showing wires or having things hanging from the windshield would be nice. I think having it as a factory installed unit would be nice. Maybe some off-roaders would like being able to record their adventures without have to mount multiple cameras around their rigs. I just think that it would be pretty cool. Are you asking in theory or are you asking if anyone has done so?
In theory, probably. You'd need to override the speed and gear shift reverse sensors to be able to activate them. At that point you could get any of them to show on the video screen, and I imagine from there you could figure out how to record what was being displayed on an external unit. If you wanted a really clean setup where you, say, recorded to a USB stick in the USB port then you'd need to hack the audio/nav system, which is QNX-based.
In actuality I don't believe anyone has ever done so, and it would be a lot of work to save $50.
