Hello All!!!

First and foremost, thank you for all the information that I had the pleasure to read over here !!! What a great community !!!

Found a possible-buy LC200 2008 with ~50K miles. While checking the Toyota history, found this:

CUSTOMER REQUESTS STARTING SYSTE M CHECK --IT KEEPS CRANKING-BUT DOES NOT START- IT WAS TOWED IN ~|~IT HAD DIESEL INSTEAD OF GAS --TECH REMOVE GAS TANK AND CLEAN ALL INSIDE ~|~ALSO FLUSH ALL FUEL LINES, PE RFORM FUEL INJECTOR SERVICE AND ALSO CLEAN THROTTLE BODY PERFORM ALSO TOP ENGINE AND CARB CLEAN --REPLACE NEW TOYOTA BATTERY

:bang::bang::crybaby::crybaby:

The question is: What are the consequences of this mistake? What was done is enough to grant no more issues related to this "diesel" later on?

Thanks a lot !!!

Putting diesel in a gas engine really isn't a big deal longevity wise. However if you put gas in a diesel that is bad news.

They just need to flush the fuel system, change the plugs, and probably change the oil.

I have put diesel in gas engines before (unmarked tanks on a farm were reversed when the tanks were refueled by tankers) and had no long term side effects..

Any other with more feedback?

Cheers.

No real experience personally. But Diesel cannot really do any harm - assuming that the fuel system was thoroughly cleaned out. I doubt that it would have combusted at all in the engine. If it did, then it is possible that a bunch of oil/diesel got int the exhaust/cats, etc. But that likely burned out when all was cleaned up.

Any way to call the dealer/tech who did the work? Probably not too hard to remember that repair as it is unusual!

BTW, I had a MB diesel. I always feared the opposite - someone putting gas in the tank. Now that is a very bad thing.

Good luck.

I saw the engine on a 250K tractor get destroyed when it was filled with gasoline!! Bent rods galore!!

I have found that a gas engine will run on diesel, but it will not start on diesel. It is also going to smoke like crazy. This was on a gas-powered F-250. The more modern electronics in the LC might not work with it.

SO, in a worst case scenario, you can drive your gasoline powered engine on diesel, just don't turn it off until you get where you need to go.

I had a 1983 MB 300SDL when I was in college. One morning after a long night I stopped at a country store to get some fuel. After putting about 8 gallons in the guy at the pump said "son, I could be wrong but isnt that a diesel?". I topped and it off with some #2 and drove it like I stole it all the way back to Chapel Hill. Car ran fine and I never had a problem. That car was awesome.

I's swap out the fuel filter just for peace of mind.
