yes, and it varied between six months and a year (or thereabouts)

Mine lasted around 1.5 - 2 years roughly but again this would depend on use I guess.
After changing it for the first time I started keeping 5 fresh batteries with long life in the vehicle.

Good question. I changed mine 2 weeks ago. It lasted 2yrs and 10 months. First sign of low battery is when you press the arm button on the key fob, and the orange led light does not lid up. Also, when one has to try a few time to lock or unlock the vehicle.

Whoa, what happened to battery life. I have an 02 LC and changed battery for the first time last summer, 2010. By the way, had to get it at Radio Shack. My 02 LC is a smart key. My 2008 LC was the square key, push start with remote start(I have used that function 3 times). My battery is still fine with it. I presently have a 2011 and it appears to be the same key as the 08. I am surprised the newer model key batteries run out so soon.

reliving this thread, new to 200... would leaving the key fob in the car all the time (cars are garaged) drain the battery quicker? I either have bought crappy batteries or somehow its draining very quickly , I've had the car for 2 months and changed the battery twice already (getting the "can't detect key warning" while key is in the car and its hard to lock)

That is odd, but I can see where leaving the key in the LC might cause the battery to drain quicker than storing the key out of range of the sensor. For what it's worth, I've had my '08 for six years and have replaced the battery in the primary remote twice. I've changed it in the spare remote once and it was dead from lack of use and age.

Have owned my 08 for a year now and replaced the fob battery twice. I bought a bunch of spare batteries on Amazon for safe keeping.
You know you have one good start left (maybe more?) by pushing the car start button with your fob (direct contact) when the fob battery is going out - its gotten me home twice that way. I'm sure you guys are savvy enough to know that I'm just putting it out there.

What type battery do the key fobs take? I had one die while out but was able to unlock with the actual key and then start by placing fob directly against the start button.

Fwiw, I carry several spare batteries in my "cool box/console" for just this reason. Also, the fobs are fairly waterproof as my main fob has survived the pool and the Gulf of Mexico on numerous occasions

yep, I found out they are waterproof also, though they were ruined a couple times but they were fine... 2 years and the batteries are going strong!

The owners manual maintance log show when dealers change your battery at certain service intervals. Like others, I keep a couple of extra batteries in my owners manual. Just incase.

Reviving an old thread from the depths.

Just curious, how long is your key fob battery lasting? Mine usually needs to be changed around 6 months, but some report more than a year.

The owners manual says 1-2 years, but I have never gotten close that. Cheap amazon batteries to blame? How often are you changing the battery in your key fob?

I get two years easy. try energizer or Duracell brand. I also keep an extra battery in the glove box.

2.5 to 3 years I would say is what I am getting. Note I never actually use the remote. It stays in my pocket. I touch the door handles to lock and unlock. I have remote start but I never use that either.
