Alright - have a quick question for the electrically gifted out there. I have a 71' FJ40 with the typical SBC 350 conversion - HEI ignition. Recently, she refused to start - would look around, play with the distributor cap/wires...wait a bit and it would start - having no idea what changed.
Ended up changing plugs, wires, cap and rotor - keeping base and built in coil on cap - still wouldn't start. Then, looked even closer and found a broken base, just around the lip of the bottom where the cap sits - so I thought spark was escaping - RTV black in gap, and she started right up. A couple hours later - no spark.
The only consistency is that when she does start, after playing with the distributor, she'll start again and again all day, as long as she's warm. Let her sit for a couple hours, or over night - and nothing.
Is there a short in the ground somewhere? I'm obviously missing something here. Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks!
Todd
