Hi Folks,

I hope someone can answer my question.

I have a LC 80 with 1HDT, 4.2 litre diesel and recently replaced the clutches in my auto gearbox. I have the A442F gearbox with overdrive.

What I am experiencing is that the RPM’s have to reach 2000 before the gear changes from 1st to 2nd. Is this normal?

Many thanks for all your help in advance.

Kind Regards,

Dash

that would depends .. but yes I don't see a problem there .. this happening under mild to soft acceleration can be normal .. if you push harder it must do it a higher rpm range and you also should have the kick down working as it should be .. did you test that ?

It seems that my kickdown cable is working... But I think it's to do with the adjustment on the Throttle Position Sensor. I'm hoping to adjust the TPS and see how it runs. From what I have heard, the gear change should happen at about 1500 RPM's.

Hi...

I am really struggling with my auto gearbox. We did some adjustments to the TPS sensor and the kickdown cable...

1st to 2nd changes at 3500 rpm when the car is driven from cold, then all other gear changes between 1800 to 2200 rpm. After the car gets hot 1st to 2nd changes at 1800 to 2200.

It's only when I stop, switch of the engine and drive again that the initial gear change from 1st to 2nd changes at 3500rpm.

I had the auto box rebuilt... Any idea what the problem could be. The kickdown does not work and the TPS sensor has been adjusted with no luck.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Bruce,

Thanks for your reply.

Yes - I have the Japanese spec vehicle. I'll PM you.

An Update: I have now checked the diagnostics code using the pin and have come up with 4 1. This shows severed throttle position sensor or short circuit - severed wire harness or short circuit.

The TPS is measuring at 4v instead of 6v... so i assume my TPS sensor is spoilt. We've looked at the wiring and there was a nick on one of the wires which has now been fixed. But I still get the 4 1 Code.

I think a new TPS may be needed.

A really old thread,
But what was the outcome? I am getting these symptoms. Same code 41 and replaced the TPS.
