Is it possible to use 75 or later doors on a 72 fj40? If so, how hard is the swap and what is involved? I did a search and was unable to find anything. Has anyone done this? I like the interior door panels and interior door handles of the later doors.

Did this on my 68 more than twenty years ago. The door stop will match up just need to adapt the door striker. The gas tank is real close too since the doors are thicker but it will fit.

I agree about the strikers. I pulled a nice pair of strikers out of an older rig at pick 'n' pull. The later-model doors were not attached, but present. I assumed it had them on it when it arrived there.

Any pictures?

I might have some pictures of the striker setup I made. The cruiser is not here in the Phoenix area but I took picture before when this question came up in the past. No real interest so never posted. The later style tub is thicker where the striker mounts I used a small piece of metal. Drilled two hole to match the holes in the tub and tapered them to match the screws. Then just did the same to mount the newer striker. I used nuts on the back of the plate for the since the metal was really to thin to tap. the nuts just fit inside the tub. Any thicker metal and I would have clearance issues.

The main reason for my updating was the one piece doors don't rattle as much on washboard forest service roads.

I am planning to do the opposite. I have a 78' but will be making half doors from a 65'

When I did my 3/4 tub swap back in '05 my donor tub was from a '71. We took the door striker area from my '78 tub and welded them onto the '71. Worked great. We also swapped out gas door assem. also.

good luck
