Has anyone put 265/75 16's on the 6 in. stock wheels and run them on their non lifted LJ78? My tire shop says the wheel/tire combo is OK but I'm thinking there could be a clearance problem. Any input would be appreciated.:)

On my old LJ78, I put a 31.5 incher on the stock 6" rim with no probs.
Sorry I cant remember the exact size, it wasnt very big.

I have 33 x 12.5 Maxxis Big Horns on my stock 15" x 7 rims. I have ironman springs which lifted the truck about 2 inches. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but the longer springs don't seem affect my tire clearance. They will still travel all the way to the bump stops, clear the wheel wells and it turns fully stop to stop without rubbing. It looks to me that much bigger than 33s and it would rub. I think it could even take 35s if I got rid of the little plastic bumper ends on the front bumper, and re-geared. I don't really know. It is a very uneducated and unexperienced guess on the 35s. I didn't re-gear for 33s, and it is fine - just my 2lte feels even more gutless than it was before, but hey, it's a 4x4 not a Porche. Mine is stock other than the springs...of course they are 15x7" rims too...

Interesting that your LJ78 came with stock 16" rims. Both mine and a buddies have 15" rims. His has 31x10.5R15 and mine has 265/70R15.

Heading down to Buffalo on Monday to get a set of Yoki A/T-S ... getting the 31x10.5R15.

Everything stock on both our trucks so I know this will fit.

im running 265/70x16 on my lj79on 7 inch wheels.Same body and suspension on the lj78 except with the 3L(2.8ltr) non turbo engine. You could run them no problem with clearing the arches etc but i would recommend a wider wheel.6 inches is too narrow in my opinion.

Hey Thanks guys for all the input!
I've found a set of 15X7 Alloys from a Surf and am going to put 31X10.5 15's on. Sounds like 15's work on the 78. I was just concerned about clearance for the calipers.

Cheers

you may need to grind the calipers a bit for clearancing. That was my only problem with the 15" rims might have been the offset.

I ran 33x12.5r15 on my stock suspension, never had an issue with rubbing.
