Largest possible tire on a stock 100

My 100 rolled out of the dealer with Yokohama 275/65 R17 tires..
it's time now to change those tires and I was wondering what is the largest possible tire I can fit without needing a lift, rubbing against the body or affecting gears etc.. not having to change the rims is a plus.. I like the look of stock rims..

I don't mind the speedometer being affected.. my speedometer is already off by about 6KM now which is not a big deal..

I'm thinking about something in the lines of the BF Goodrich All-Terrain T/A.. haven't found a BF Goodrich dealer here yet.. but that shouldn't be a problem..

I also looked at 4 other tires by michelin

• XCX/APT

• 4x4 XPC

what do you guys think? and should I go with Michelin or BF Goodrich?

Welcome. I would first suggest doing a search. There have been several posts on this exact topic. As well, the tire size depends on your usage. I ran 295's for a bit without a lift. No rubbing on street but I am sure they would have rubbed in the field.

Siglo, you have the non-USA Land Cruiser that has the hydo suspension, don't you?

If you always put the thing in the 'up' position when off road, you'd probably be able to go with a bigger size than stock LC's could in the USA.

The only problem is if you off road at any speed, since the suspension reverts to 'normal' height around 20 mph on the LX470, so I assume there's something similar on yours.

The biggest most have gone on a stock LC here is a 295, the biggest lifted (other than Podvin's) is a 315.

If you intend to keep the 17" wheels, look for a tire that is 33" in diameter, anything bigger will be a stretch while off roading.

would a 295 affect the diff gears?

It will effect your diff gears and your speedometer by about 9% or so, so when your speedometer reads 100 km/hr, you'll actually be going 109.

You can buy a speedometer calibration unit like the truespeed one that slee sells. Not sure if there is a supplier closer to you or not.

My plan is to get BF Goodrich All-Terrain 305/70R16s on my LC100. I tried BFG Mud-Terrain and they fit perfect in 'normal' possition. The Mud tires looks great but the they are very noisy.

the speedometer is not a problem.. I could always check the GPS screen for speed.. but what would happen to the diff gears? would the gears wear out or something? is the diff lock affected at all?
I heard here that if you run larger tires for a couple of years you'll ruin the diff gears.. is that true?

You won't hurt the diff gears at all, and the lockers won't be affected. Maybe a little more wear, but nothing to be worried about at all.

You still might want to re-calibrate your speedometer, though, to maintain correct shift points and odometer readings.

All-Terrains are not loud. But because they still have a 50% offroad cabability they are a bit louder than 100% roadtires. But still acceptable! And they look good too.
Bridgestone Dueler All-Terrain should be very quiet, but they dont have the same rough pattern as the BFG's.

Stopped by the agents for Goodyear, Bridgestone, Dunlop, Michelin , and BF Goodrich today.. they only had 275/65 R17 tires in stock.. which sucks needless to say.. BF Goodrich's Agent was so bad that they only had one single kind and size of all BFG tires..

so.. I'm planning on ordering a BF Goodrich All-Terrain T/A either through the agent here or from Dubai.. LT285/70R17 is the most reasonable size I found for my 17" rims.. do you guys think that this would be okay? how about the Rim Width Range? 7.5 - 9.0 would be okay with the LC 17" rims?

285/70-17 is a 32.8" diameter tire. Should work just fine.

I have 285/75/17 Yokohama Geolander AT and they are just fine . No rubs even off road that I have found. I found a great deal on 295/75/15 BFG AT's so they will go on tomorrow

I just picked up a second set of rims for my 2000 UZJ100 and need to find some tires. A fellow mudder here in AZ has a set of used Yokohama Geolander AT II's 185/75/16. Will these work with stock suspension. I really don't want to buy new since in AZ these will dry rot long before the tread wears on a second set of tires used only for off road. Plus what tire pressure would you recommend for forest service road not rock crawling. Looking for something that will soften the bumps but still allow me to travel 40 MPH on the all weather roads and handle safely. These forest service roads are not desert but pine forest at 7000' elevation if that help let you know the type of roads.

Yea Im sorry too I meant 295/75/16's I used to have a fj40 with 15s so I guess I was used to that.

I installed the 295's and they look great. The 285s looked real good but these look great. I took it out today and could not get anything to rub. It does not rub when turning all the way left, right, forward or backwards. I have no lift at all. I could tell a diffrence in power from the stock size 275's but I do know obsticles I was dragging, hitting and getting high centered on I now clear with ease. Obviously it could be better with 315's but for now Im happy. Made it in my garage with about 1" to spare

I run yoko 285/75/16 geolander hts
they are 8 ply and a little stiffer than stock. much deeper tread than stock 18/32
no rubs, feel great, work well for forrest service roads, hunting and are quiet. I got 5 and the spare fits fine.
