As my first real tech post let me post this warning: If your LC is S/C'd or your planning a Turbo be advised:

Issue: My opinion: The A343 tranny can not sustain the increased torque during the 1-2nd gear shift on an S/C'd Cruiser. The 'slide bump" is the term used.

Symptoms: My suspicions were confrimed via www.gadgetonline.com. The Foreunners that have the same tranny and are S/C'd from TRD have this problem. Under heavy acceleration the 2nd gear shift "hits HARD...causing havoc on the tranny and wearing out the clutch plates due to the increased power.
My LC was S/C'd with 41,000 miles . My 95' currently has 80,000 miles with 35's.
Under heavy throttle 2nd gear hits hard and jerks the truck.

Possible reason: Big tires contribited along with the S/C?? I dont believe larger tires were the reason. Forerunners had this problem long before the 80 series S/C was out. Forerunners were NOT running 35" tires. Besides i regeared to 4:56's and have the Speedo calibration unit.

The CAUSE: The valve body MUST be modified to sustain the increased power. Unfortunately, Slee does not have the Valve body fix for the A343 at this time. Luckily I have found a shop in Jersey that does all the work for Forerunners. I called them and they told me" oh yeah, we know all about that problem, send it in" Anyhow be advised, if you plan on a Turbo or an S/C GET the VALVE Body modification. Obviously TRD screwed this one up with POOR R&D. We were all guinea pigs when it came out . Ever wonder why TRD does NOT have an S/C anymore for the 100 series???........

Yup , nice guys at Level 10 . Corresponded back and forth with them in the 90's when I had the 4Runner ...

Gotta be a weak link somewhere eh ..

Good luck ,

TY

The 100 S/C is in limbo for reasons other than transmission issues. I am not at liberty to discuss it but the trans IS NOT the problem.

BUT, I am glad to have a 442 in mine.........:D

Uhm, that is why it is easy to get a 442 core and not a 343 core :D

So I guess that we are basicly saying the same thing.........:D

The 343 is just dandy behind a high-output engine and the issue is not the blower.....

The V8s cannot take the force induction without some major lower end problems. TRD put a hush-hush on this and quietly pull the SC for the V8s off the shelf.

Yo Airlaird (glad to see that name stickin) - FWIW, Level 10 is about a 1/2 drive from my shack. So if you ever deal with them or need help, just give me a shout. I know GC had great things to say about them.

On my buggerville beater, I had the trans replaced about 1-1/2 ago now. Done under warranty with no cost. I was quickly losing gears over a few days. Don't have a lot of details for ya though.

I don't know anything more about Level 10 other than two fellas (wolfpackTLC and a member of another board) said stay far, far away from them. Maybe you could pm WolfpackTLC and ask him.
