I was surprise that Land Cruiser was produced before 1954.
Actually from 1934...
But only by Studebaker.

Probably someone knows the real story behind Land Cruiser name?
By coincidence Toyota found the name exactly at the same year (1954) when Studebaker decided not to use it.

PS Official history from Toyota
  • 1954 — The name "Land Cruiser" was created by the technical director Hanji Umehara. "In England we had another competitor — Land Rover. I had to come up with a name for our car that would not sound less dignified than those of our competitors. That is why I decided to call it 'Land Cruiser'," he recalls. The name had already been used on the US Studebaker Land Cruiser car from 1934 to 1954.
  • 1955 – The Second generation, 20 Series was introduced.

PPS
Studebaker had some nice slogans

As well as Studebaker and Toyota are "relatives" in regard of Land Cruiser, so we can update the slogan a bit :)
