Debating between a 80 and 100 series, comming from a 2004 Sequoia.

Some other questions. How's the A/C w/ no rear air does the air make it to the back? W/ the vegas summers we actually had to get rid of our Series 1 Discovery because the rear wouldnt cool fast enough for our then new enfant.

Width? Wondering if I'll be able to fit 3 car seats across the 2nd row? Two full size and one of those carrier ones? My wife seems to think that will fit in the Sequoia, which I highly doubt .

Those are my to bigger things holding be back from getting a 80 series. Ideally looking to cut back the car payments and get something that has more availble offroad accessories. Not to mention the solid front axle.

I think the 100 sounds pretty good in your situation.
The 3 infant seats across the 2nd row (much easier in 100) & rear A/C (100 series only) .

If it won't fit in a Sequoia, it certainly won't fit in an 80.

coil sprung, solid front axle is 80 series love only :)

So the 100 is wider? I thought I read a post showing the width only greater by .4 inches or something to that effect .

Thanks for the comparison chart!

For the rear air (in a pretty hot climate) and room for car seats, the advantge goes to the 100. Interesting, contradictory to the chart above, my 100 series cargo area "feels" bigger than my 80.

Hmm.. I'm not so worried about the cargo area. Already know I'll have to give up a good amount of space comming from the sequoia (Have a mega warrior roof rack which should do just fine)

I really like the styling of the 450,the solid front axle, and the number of decently priced accesories i'd put on. Sliders, bumpers, lift are not that expensive. So, the difference in the 450 vs 100 LC's price would justify the extra goodies!.

However, this car is for weekend offroad trips and the long haul trips to see family /friends etc. Right now we have two kids in car seats, a dog that would need to be in her cage in the rear and a Engel 43qt. Another consideration is that we are moving to Reno from Las Vegas so this will be our last summer of EXTREME heat.

*Hmmmmm*

Perhaps the 100 has a taller ceiling?

I hear ya. I have both a LX450 and a LX470, I like the rear AC, the heated seats, the stereo and the memory seats/mirrors on the LX470, but I like the 450 better. Can't fully quantify it, but I like the 450 better for it's handling, solid axles, body style (much better), cargo area sliding windows...

The LX470 is better for a weekend roadtrip, as it is more comfortable, and it is my wife's daily driver, I do like it very much. But, if I had to get rid of one of them I would keep my 450. Then I would have to pay for counseling, because my wife would want to kill me because I didn't keep the 470. :)

Moral of the story:

Get one of each! :D

For me the A/C living in Las Vegas or Reno would kill the 80 from the start. The needing the extra width would put the final nail in the coffin.

The 80 is a great vehicle, dogs love it with the rear sliding windows, and they drive wonderfully. I love mine and am in no hurry to replace it (which will be with a 100 series). The problem is the 80 is older, is going to with 90% probability need the cooling system replaced (see all the threads here), plus the birfields repacked, and other items. Figure $2000-3000 to bring even a decently maintained on up to par for real desert use and to be used for off roading in a hot climate. Once you have done all that, you will find the A/C while fine on the freeway stinks in stop and go traffic. You can help it with an electric pusher fan, but even then, it will not cool the rear nearly as well as a 100 will.

Haha.. See the sequoia was my wifes daily driver. Then we lifted it and put 33's on it. Then took away her running boards and welded on some sliders. Now getting kids in and out is a PITA. So we got her a little rav4 to bomb around town in. Then I've got this nice little roadster to drive to work in. So I don't see room for both the 450 and 470 :) .

Hmmpf.. I guess I'll have to start looking at those 100's now. :crybaby:

My 80's air from sitting in 100 degrees to cool is less than five minutes. Tha air makes it all the way back (so much that my Wife complained it was too cold when she was in the rear (third row).

I am generally hot when it is not so that the AC is capable of keeping me comfortable in the Ixtapa heat says alot.

Here in Phoenix, 105-110 deg takes a heck of lot longer than 5 minutes to cool down with my 80 because the air is so dry. In your case, I believe the AC and high humidity may be why yours cools down so fast. I remember back in Guam when it was 90 degrees and 90% humidity, you get in a car with AC and it cools down in minutes but that may not be the case in Vegas unless there's a monsoon.

A couple weeks ago I bought a fan that clips to the dash to help blow cool air to the back...not only was it a waste of $12 but it looked totally ghetto :grinpimp:

WET

I tried the fan deal in my Excursion in L.A. same result as you report. I spent a few days in Scottsdale in February and you are 100% correct that it takes longer in dry heat but no more than 10 minutes (for the Wife to complain) lol

I have seen recently a doo hickey that closes in the window when you leave the vehicle that runs on solar and claims to blow the hot interior air out. For the amazing T.V. price of 19.95 (plus s&h) I am tempted to try it.
