KZJ78 1KZTE DIY intercooler (ex Isuzu) Updated 17 August

Hi all.
Thought I would share my Intercooler Mod.
Fitting an Isuzu intercooler and Bonnet scoop into my KZJ78 Prado.
Have a look at

Would look at Prado factory setup but the cost second hand here (NZ) is too much coin for me. So I like a challenge...

I am almost done. Just a duct to make and fit the throttle (remote fit as all it needs is the TPS and Auto Transmission Pressure Line cable)

Tomorrow I can turn the key and see how she goes.

Ready for a forest run in the weekend.

She Lives !
Not run in 7 weeks... (batteries on trickle charge)
Started first time, idles nice and strong.
I love these electronic pumps... (while they work). heheheheh

Drives well, doing some testing with temp data logger and get some real time info.

No plans to tweak fuel or boost, but could be on the cards (POWER!)

With initial temp results.

Cheers

Personally I would of done a front mount ,only becuase the top mounts get alot of heat soak while not moving(trafffic, slow going, idling),also what sort of bonnet scoop you running(isuzu ??)

Fan finally on, see the link in the first post for updates.
Haven't tried it yet in off road yet.
But it sure pulls the air thru the scoop.

Will post some temp results on my next trip in a few weeks time.

drfvdr

Went away from front mount as this is for my off road vehicle, and a front mount space was limited.
Also I didn't like the idea of it out in front, prone to damage on the trail and also getting filled with mud.
Which is a common / regular event on my trips. And if its all chocked up its not going to work.
I was also concerned about lag with all the pipework to get it out the front and back again.

On road the top mount works great. And is not that bad for heat soak.
I used real time, actual air temp probes in the duct work to measure what temps I was getting before and after the intercooler.
Also under bonnet and in scoop.

I have used the Isuzu scoop, fits nicely on the Prado bonnet.

Take a look in my NZ forum write up.
