The hipinion front pinion offset is std even with 4.88 so re-gearing is not an issue in this instance.

Thanks for your input. Good to hear that the front 4.88 carriers can take aftermarket gears.
When I swapped my 4.3 pumpkins for 4.88 the plan was to use the ring and pinion in my rear e locker... but I discovered the issue with the off set.

The LJ78 came out with front and rear e lockers as an option. I have only seen a rear in a Jap import here in NZ.

The KZJ78 also had the same options, but again only seen a rear setup. Mine was removed from a KZJ78 roll over....So I got the controller and harness from rear chassis to diff.
The axle housing was bent so no good to me.
Lucky for me the rest of the harness was already in my truck. Just had to run the trigger wires to controller and put in a switch.
I was given a speedo from an LJ which had the elocker indication light in it.
So I took it out and grafted it into my speedo / rev counter.

So Tassie KZJ78 you are good to go as long as the ratios match.

the LJ78 had an option for front e/lockers? really?

Sure do.

I would imagine they would be a customer extra.... And not very common.
In Aussie and NZ you can get High Country options of Landcruisers in the new 78 series, 80 series and 100 series.
Basically uprated suspension and lockers.

Guy in UK / Ireland selling on a forum from an LJ70 1991
couple of LJ70 bits

Hate to think what Toyota would sell them for. ARB air locker would probably be cheaper.

Happy to help...
Would love to find one myself.....
But doing o.k with just the rear...
Might look at a LSD for the front....

BRRRRRR that looks cold. Especially the shorty...
The back does tend to fishtail with the locker on.
Try it on a wet paddock of grass.
Fun !!!

You sure?

Checked a couple of different models in toyodiy.com, and that part number doesn't seem to indicate a front locker, it is just the standard non-locked front diff carrier.

The part diagrams show a front diff lock actuator, but it is listed as non-applicable on the couple of LJ71/78 models I looked at.

Any idea what market it was sold in, and which particular year, to check in toyodiy.com?

Or maybe since it was a limited customer option, it is showing as not applicable?

Most rears show three options, open, LSD and locker.

Crushers and I were talking options for LJ and KZJ 78's.

The Toyodiy.com web site lists all three when you look at the whole diff (rear).....
But having another peek I have to agree with SimonInAustralia.. There is only one P/N listed for the front but the pictures show two on offer, Open and E locker.

I use Japan as a market as thats where our imports typically come from down under.

Example, 1994 KZJ78 Rear diff.
Rear diff base number / figure is 41110
Click on this and you get 3 offerings.
41110-26161 = E Locker
41110-35640 = LSD (G285)
41110-35650 =Open (G284)

Front diff
There is some error as it shows same P/N for e locker and open diff.

Another example...
1994 LJ78 Rear diff
Base number is again 41110
Click on this and you get 3 offerings.
41110-60380 = E Locker
41110-60390 = LSD (G145)
41110-60480 =Open (G144)

Front diff 41110F
There is some error as it shows same P/N for e locker and open diff.

I have the Toyota EPC loaded on my other PC and will search Toyota Data to check P/N's

Yes, I was looking at Japan spec LJ78 for a couple of year models, and it didn't seem to show the front locker as an option.

Hate to spoil the fun, but LJ78 and KJZ78 lwb or swb variant..no front lockers.

Sorry guys got my wires crossed....
There is an option for a front e locker in a 70 series....
I had to re read some posts on another forum and check my latest Toyota EPC.
The 1999 to 2001 Euro spec (LHD) HZJ7# series ran a 4.3 ratio front e locker.
P/N 41110-6A310. or a 41110-6A311.

Here is a link to a Czech site Toyota Landcruiser 4x4 ~ Dajbych s.r.o.

I am not aware of any factory locker available for the 8" front axles for the light duty series landcruiser..LJ, RJ, KZJ. The heavier duty landcruisers came with the option of front locker.

I went ARB in the end.
