Driving along normally there's a knock and grind in the front left hand wheel. Locked the front hubs in my hzj75 and the grind went away (cv joint most likely) leads me to conclude the hub isn't disengaging completely, I was going to strip the hub and inspect it but when I was reversing out of the drive way today when I touched the brakes there was a clunk in the front left wheel as well. Did a bit of research in my breaks and found some people have had the same problem and they had loose brake pads, but mine aren't loose.

Any ideas on either problems would be grateful thank you.

Wheel bearing? Who knows, but when you have grinding, thats time for a strip down

wheel bearing, no matter what you shouldn't be driving it till you know what exactly it is.
loss of wheel bearing can lead to loss of brakes and loss of steering control. not wise.

Will be doing front wheel bearings ands cv joints, I've done the bearings several times but what's involved with the cv joints? Also how and what oil is used/applied to the part of the hub you are talking about?

I use engine oil.

Inside of the hub was rusted, cleaned it up but need new hubs, recommendations? I have avm aftermarket ones at the moment.

you should be able to source a set of used hubs easy enough.
is it just the center section that needs replacing or the whole hub?

Centre section, wheel bearing was not the cause of the grinding noise. The spring in the locking cap works fine. I'm running out of ideas

so you are SURE it is coming from the wheel section, right?
not the center diff?
busted axle shaft rubbing on the joint?

Has to be the wheel, comes from the left hand side on a RHD ute and stops when the hubs are engaged
