Just about to purchase my ome lift but was wondering what tires i should put on them? I'm going to be doing about 65% highway and 35% offroad. I was sold on the km2's until i saw the coopers stt tire, now i'm not so sure. I'll mostly be dealing with mud in South Carolina but really want to do some trails and want a tire that can hold the abuse of rocks and everything else. I'd be getting a 33x12.5 15R any comments on past experiences with the tire and road wear? thanks alot

I have the STT's and I was in your boat and I am glad I got the STT's.

I am going to be getting another set for my 62. They are not a loud tire and dig in really well.

I only have about 4k on the tires but no issues so far. I got mine off of ebay for $780 shipped they were 285/75/16.

I also have the STT's and have about 8000 miles on them.
The tires don't seem to wear down too fast.
They have fairly good road manners -for a mud tire- and they're
not too loud.
The tires see about 80% pavement and 20% offroad.

On snow they do fairly good but on icy roads they suck as
much as every other non-studded tire. They loose sideways grip on snow and ice fairly easy and suddenly, so go easy on curvy roads unless you intend to play. :steer:

A few no-no's what I've experienced are wet grassy dirt hills and clay. Clay really clogs up the tire and makes it like it was made of ice. Wet grassy dirt hills: my HJ61 didn't have a chance going up a little hill even with front & rear axle locks on and it wasn't even steep.

I really like the tire for everyday use for it's good all-around manners. Change the tires front to back, side to side about every 5000 or so miles, and you have yourself a good set for a long time.

Mine are also 33x12.5x15 and I'd buy a new pair again.

Hope this helps a bit.

I'm looking at the BFG KM2 or the cooper stt's. Any experience from anyone that has run both? The KM2's are about $70/tire more than the Cooper STT.

the KM2 looks better, and does better in dirt and mud...

I drove for a couple weeks on some 35" KM2s this winter and was not that impressed with them. It was on a SASed 4runner. They handled well on the road, but in snow they definitely got a little sketchy. They might be good siped, but I had to put it in 4wd to get out of intersections sometimes... my $.02

I'm not concerned with looks, but I am concerned with off-road traction on wet rock crawling situations and daily driving this tire, as well.

I'm not too concerned with how they drive in snow either, although this year in Boone, NC was ridiculous snow wise.

I just put a set of the new Goodyear MT-Rs on my 60 with an OME lift. They are a bit spendy, but after last weekend in Moab in which I saw sand, slick rock and muddy/snowy hill climes, I am more than impressed. I would definatly recomend them.

I've used my KM2's in a light clay mud and they did great. Road manners seem excellent but I'm not that picky. No experience on snow, ice or wet grass. I'd buy them again.

I put a set of 35" km2s on my SOA 60 and I'm really impressed. Worth the extra money. I've had BFG a/t and Good Year MTRS. I'm in Arizona and in the mud sand rocks and dirt they really grip better than anything else I've driven. They don't seem to get clogged up like the MTRS I had used to in the mud. I've only got about 6k on mine but there hardly wearing at all. Extremely quiet for a mud tire as well.

Anything with large, flat lugs and no siping is going to suck on ice.

Anything without large lugs is going to suck in the mud.

It's a compromise. I actually have a set of 'play' Swamper LTBs on steel wheels for weekends and ATs for pavement.

i have km2s and love them...good on road as long as I rotate every 3k miles....handle good so far in mud and rain as well...and even some snow when I went to Boone a couple times this year for work.
