I have an 2004 LC, I bought it used so not sure if this is the original key fob or a replacement but here is my question. My back up key fob is dead and needs a new battery. What I have found searching is the battery should be CR1616 but when I took my fob apart the battery in it was a DL1620, what should I replace it with? Maybe the reason it is dead is because of the wrong battery was in it, it was working when it had the DL1620 in it though?

I looked in my manual but it doesn't say.

Thanks.

CR 1616 is the correct battery.

That's weird, it's right in the section on the key.

Sorry, should have read, I didn't see it in the owners manual, page 19, I either flipped past it or didn't flip far enough.

Still, does anyone know why a DL1620 was in mine and worked for a while? Maybe I have an aftermarket key fob?

The DL1620 you had is equivalent to a CR1620 battery. The DL refers to being sold by Duracell is my good guess here.

In the CR** code the four digits refer to the dimensions of the battery. The first two numbers are the diameter in millimeters.
The last two are the thickness in tenths of millimeters. The Cr1620 is fatter than the Cr1616 by 0.4mm.

Both are lithium cell batteries (3v). The CR1620 will last longer

Putting a thicker battery in a fob requiring a thinner battery is not recommended. It may wear out the fob innards. However, assuming it does not damage the fob interior - it will actually last you longer by around 20%

So if you had a DL1620 in your fob - it should work as expected.

Lastly, you may have an aftermarket fob that takes a CR1620 / DL1620 in the first place. No worries there.

The key fob for my ‘07 LC started acting up so I found this thread and purchased a new CR1616 battery. Come to find out my fob takes a CR2016. I’m not sure when the change took place so it’s best to check your owners manual first.

It's 1616, I just changed mine out on Monday. Mine is an 02. Can't say about other years though.
