Just a warning.. I broke the plastic part of the key when I tried starting the other day.. It was a rather new key.
I discovered that the screw that holds the plastic halves together had dropped out and I didn't notice. When you try and use the key with the screw missing, the plastic around where the key is molded on will break.
I was left with just a little "T" sticking out of the ignition, but the cruiser was running.. I drove home and was able to turn it off and discovered what cause the problem..
I think the engine will start if you just have the plastic part of the key near the dash... as long as the transponder is near the control box..
