Everything I've read on here states 2.5 - 3 turns of the shutter valves to open the system sufficiently to install your new suspension. I had also read that the torque value of 10ft/lb when closing them.

Then, I watched this video and it states "(3 - 4) 1/4 turns" to open the valves and a torque value of 73 inch pounds.

What am I missing / misunderstanding?

Also, when you guys have installed your new suspensions, do you simply open the valves and proceed, or do you also loosen the swaybar clamps / end-links?

For KDSS valves, it’s 3 full turns, no more. Some where between 4 and 5 turns, they will come out and that means you’ve just spent $1000 to get your KDSS system refilled and pressurized at a dealer. Don’t ask how I know this…

It’s possible you don’t need all 3 turned to open the valves enough to relax the KDSS system.

Depends on what you are doing as far as suspension work if you need to loosen other stuff. For example, on the rear, I take the end link off the passenger side when removing springs.

I’ve found 2 turns is sufficient. YMMV I guess, but there’s zero difference in effort to move the sway bar around between 2 and 3 turns for me. I only go two turns now because why risk it?

When you’re done slather the bolts of the KDSS valves with marine grease so they don’t rust.

I was told 9 ft/lbs torque when closing.

Definitely agree you should clean up the rust and figure out your preferred method of preventing future build up (regularly slather in marine grease, regularly spray with LPS3, etc.). I had mine primed and painted so as not to have worry about regular maintenance but YMMV.
