I was wondering if anybody has info. regarding the pivot covers that are sold for the Kaymar bumper. What are they made of and how do they attach? I see them listed for about $15 ea. and wondering if they are worth it or can something similar be made at home for a lot less. Thank you in advance

You can use simple trailer stub axles for the pivots.

they are made of metal and simply attach by a inner thread in the cover itself.

Check out my thread on Kaymar Tire Carrier. In the pic, my DS spindle has the Kaymar cover on it. It's metal and just screws right on the spindle.

Worth the $$ if you don't plan on using if for awhile IMHO.

1. Can you remove the spindle and cap the hole until you need it?

2. Can you still carry a spare in the original place with the Kaymar bumper, so if you did not get to do the spare tire carrier right away, or if you wanted an extra spare?

1. The TJM design is this way, where the spindle is on the carrier arm itself and fits into a hole in the top of the bumper. The Kaymar design has the spindle on the bumper and it cannot be removed. That's why they make those covers ,to help protect the spindle when you don't have any attachments mounted.

2. I can say from experience that a 305/70-16 (33") tire will no longer fit under the truck due to the integrated tow hitch in the Kaymar. Can't say about any other sizes.

1. Don't know why you'd want to. Can't tell if the spindle itself just unscrews from the bumper or not. MAF may be able to tell you.

2. Didn't try, but it certaily looks like a 275 or 285 would still fit underneath.
