The Upstate Cruisers has today donated $100 to the Katrina Relief Fund.

Our ever-caring and foresighted David Harrison made the suggestion and unanimously approved by your Board of Directors. The donation has been made to the American Red Cross in the name of the Upstate Cruisers.

Please share your ideas with the rest of us on how we can further assist the victims of this trajedy.

Well call me crazy but I had an idea today while flying home. Why not some how have a food/water collection drive. Then get it to the redcross chapter or a national gaurd unit so they can get it to LA. I try to always smile but this has really struck deep with me. I went thru Hugo in 89 so I know what they are going thru, except there's is about 10 times worse than what happend to Charleston in 89. I have found myself reading and watching anything and everything I can about the Hurricane. I'm gonna make a donation to the Red Cross myself but I feel the need to do more than that. If I could I'd get it my cruiser and drive to LA with a hammer and my tool bag towing my boat behind it I would, but of course I have to be realistic. So I feel obligated to do something more. A suggestion I have is maybe instead of a swap meet next week after the trash pick up we go park our cruisers in a parking lot somewhere with signs and all and collect food and water. We can put ads in a few of the upstate papers to get people to come out and donate. We should also contact the red cross and get a red cross sign out there or a representative or something. Just my .02 cents.

Did this happen yet?

Reason I ask is that I just found out that Lowe's is matching donations up to one million dollars. My mother-in-law took a check for $10k from the county government up there and they took it, and matched it dollar for dollar happily. They actually heard the county was going to make a donation and took it upon themselves to find the right county official to let them know they would gladly match anything! That's above and beyond.

Contacted Woody

Hey Guys I am trying to make this food drive a national thing here in cruiser land. I contacted Woody and asked him if he would post a thread asking everyone on mud to hold there own food drive and donate it to the redcross. He wrote me back and asked me to send him the link once I post it. So this could turn out to be one of heck of a food drive.

Ok just set up a thread for making this a National Landcruiser food drive and sent it to Woody. I guess we need to decide where we are gonna have this food drive. Also do we want to put ads in the paper? Do we want to contact the Red Cross or Drop it off at a walmart or bilo or something along those lines? Just my 2 cents.

I have contacted Rock 101 and Wssl 100. I should know tomorrow if they can set up a public service message for us.

Location ideas that come to mind are:

Supermarkets parking lot
Shopping centers

Of course, speed is of the essence. Can anyone assist in helping me coordinate a location like the ones above, please?

Clemson Bilo might be a good place. I haven't heard or seen any food drives goin on here in Clemson. JP and Richard may know differently. Only downfall with that is having to drive from the cleanup site to clemson.

So far I have not been successful in getting any radio station to support us. It seems that they are swamped with like-minded attempts from other groups.
This is important because unless we get the word out no one will come.

I have called the Pickens County Chapter of the American Red Cross to see what we can do for them.

Hey Alex has anyone pm'ed you on this? I haven't gotten any responses from anyone else, yet a 129 people have viewed this thread in 4 days. Please guys if you are willing to help let us know. I would like it to be a whole club event and not just Alex and I sitting out in a parking lot collecting food. I want to do all we can to help those who are in need. I hate to be forward but everyone was gung-ho on the swap meet after the clean up and now no one has responded. I'm hoping it has just been the labor day weekend. Sorry don't mean to piss anyone off I just know people are in need and I want to be there for them. Ya know think about it if you lost everything that was around you right now. Sorry guys I just know what it's like and it aint fun. Hope you guys can help us.

Thanks, Chuck

Chuck I am all up for it. Just tell me when and where. I'll make time. I have been swamped this week and weekend. I even worked on labor day. And I'm still at work now. But I'm in. I have tons off food in the pantry to give also.

Sweet!! It's gonna be after the road cleanup. Not sure where yet...Alex is waiting on the Red Cross to contact him. As far as a place I don't think any grocery store is gonna say no to us making a spot in there parking lot for the afternoon. So where ever is fine with me.

Alex, Clemson has there own radio station, even if we didn't do it in Clemson I'm sure they would announce it on there station. It's 88.1, JP or Richard do you know what the number is? I believe the 411 for clemson is 656-3311. Been a while since I graduated so I don't remember all the numbers.

I am in Tenn right now and will be back thursday night. JP do you have some time to run by Bilo and ask them if we could park in there lot on sunday afternoon? If this doens't work for the rest of you let me know. We can have it anywhere ya want to.

Thanks Chuck
