I got the idea of using the space blanket and sleeping bag liner in place of a full sleeping bag from ultra light hikers. I do photography, and when you start out with 35 lbs of photography gear before you count your backpack, every lbs you can save counts. I first tried it out in the bed of my pickup. It was a 10 degree night and I overheated. The real headache is the space blanket is moisture proof and as such all moisture stays inside it unless vented. I determined you really need to change clothes in the morning to get out of your now damp clothes. You also need an airspace between you and the space blanket so it can do it's heat reflection thing.
