Just bought an Engo 9000 w/synthetic rope...

Am I doomed?....came in fourth in the winch shoot out.

I'm guessing I may need it a few times a year...but will certainly bolster my off road gumption to go out more places

My buddy has one on his Wrangler. I have seen it in action, and that Engo works great for him.

You're not doomed. There are a ton of winches coming across from China lately, just like tents and LED lights. The trick if you want an import is to find a company that will back the product.

Many if not almost all of the less expensive imported Chinese winches are slooow so be prepared for slow winching, especially under load. Slow doesn't always = bad, but it will take longer to get out if a hole.

Keep an eye on any imported synthetic line. I've repaired a few that have broken when they shouldn't have.

And like with many winches some basic PM is good. Many people don't ever do any PM on their winch and then gripe when something doesn't work.

Have fun with her. Test her out short and long term and report back.

Thank you Sir...

Good to know there's a great resource for additional line, repairs, or line extensions.;)

I did read it was slow...but after reading the shoot out...I am also in amazement that the Warn basically crapped to bed, but was able to still win?:hhmm:

The shootout was entertaining.

I have a engo 10K on my 60. It is not fast, but has pulled everything I have asked it to. Considering that just about everything Warn makes is from China, I don't see the desire to spend 3 to 5 times the cost on a warn winch.

I just got a 12K Engo with synthetic. I've read a number of posts by people with Engo's that seem pleased. It may not run forever or be easy to rebuild like a Warn 8274, but this fell into my price point.

If I use it up in a couple years and they don't (or aren't around to) stand behind their "lifetime" warranty, well, I guess I'll need to consider reaching deeper into my pocket book.

Price point is a big deal. With a more expensive winch you typically get a more solid warranty and a company that should be around longer, faster speed, better tech support and availability of service parts. That is typical - not always, but almost always. BUT - a slow winch is better than no winch. I've also heard good things about Engo. I should probably give them a call...

Enjoy that new winch - and I replied to your thread about spooling syn line.

Ive had an ENGO 10k on our 80 for about a year. It was free with the Metal Tech bumper so I figured Id run it till it broke then replace it.

No complaints so far from me. Its been used to recover one of our Sprinter ambulances that was buried to the axle in sand and to pull a 40 off a trail after an electrical fire.

Its worked great, the speed has been plenty fast. My only complaint is the remote is wired backward- out on the remote is in and vice versa.

Thank you guys for the info...I truly appreciate the info.

Wellllllll....

The Engo didn't work out. I canceled the order when AutoAnything sent the 3rd shipping delay.

And in life everything happens for a reason..a buddy turned around and gave me a Ramsy 8000 winch for free!!

Also in classic fashion, after a few phonecalls to annoy Steve down at Southeast Overland....I was on my way to sweet set up with the right advice and proper parts

Thanks Steve...

My Engo just locked up on me. I have not trouble shot it yet to see what happened our called them to find out what they will do. But I'll keep everyone posted on what happens.

Thanks for the purchase!

So what kind of solenoids do these Engo winches have? The box looks big which might suggest to old school-pack of solenoids?
I'm hoping its the single Albright/superwinch type one though, because honestly it'd be a deal breaker for me.

Not to sure..never made it that far. I can tell you what kind of solenoids are in a Ramsey though...old, nasty ones!!

First order of business was to peel the top off, knock out the old bee hives, and start to take the wiring apart and clean everything up.

Fitting was a struggle, including moving somethings around and such. Not to be confused with a PERFECT fitting winch plate from BudBuilt...great job Bud...thanks

Got everything in, ran the wiring, assembled the nose, and gave her a bestertester...all good!! The control lives under the hood, velcroed down to top of the air cleaner box.

Thanks again, also, to Steve and Southeast Overland for the assistance..

Southeast does not sell the engo winches to the best of my knowledge
