Changed the fluid & filter on mine, made no difference, it's been the same for the last 14000 miles, doesn't get any worse so i just drive & don't worry.

Try the Kick-down cable adjustment. I changed my filter and fluid and I and had the same effect. I spent 5 minutes adjusting the kick-down cable (tightened the cable just a little), and my acceleration doubled.

Yup it was the kick down cable, a local mudder "Bearcat80" helped me located and adjust the kickdown cable, tightened up the slack in the cable and saw instant results. Adjusted it a little at a time, until the flaring completely stopped.. Very easy fix, once you find where the cable is.

Thanks again Bearcat! drove the cruiser 600miles this past weekend up towards Canada with out it flaring once!

Yup.

As you mentioned, the cable stretches, and the up-shift points start coming at waaay too low rpm's, and it's almost impossible to get it to "kick down". Re-adjusting can make it feel like a whole new truck! :)

I just did this to mine over lunch. I wonder if the the mpg would go up any? Your thoughts?

It'll go down, cuz now you're gonna drive it more aggressively. :D

2Xs That!!!:D

FYI, the 91-92 tranny has a screen that is cleaned and reused, not a filter that is discarded and replaced by a new one.

FYI- same applies to the '93-94 tranny (A442F) and the '95-97 tranny (A343F).

You're right. And for all future reference, unless your tranny is having some really bad problems, I would recommend that the filter and pan be left alone. My 92 filter looked great and I end up spend a couple hours and about $50 for nothing. I would say focus on the little stuff first. That's what fixed my Cruiser.

Gotta disagree with that. I would think you gained a lot of peace of mind from those two hours and $50; well worth it in my book.

Personally, I would always drop the pan at least once on a new-to-me vehicle.

Good Point. I thought I had a problem with slip. I thought I may have had a plugged filter, but once completed I did have that peace of mind.
