I've been searching for an inexpensive 100-series for a couple months now, and happened to find a silver '03 for sale right around the corner from my office!

220,000 miles. 2nd owner. Runs and drives well. Good tires, good suspension, good brakes.

Flaws:

Check engine light, stability control, ABS light lit for O2 sensor
Timing belt due
Lots of surface rust on the center of the underbody, and some rust where the two pieces of the tailgate clasp together
Some moderate interior wear- should respond nicely to leatherique
DVD error from Nav system
Could use a general tune-up

Overall seems like a nice project truck. We shook hands for $5000. That seems like a good deal given the value of an '03 even though it needs some work.

What do you all think? Anything I should look for that I might have missed?

I would say " Good Deal "

An '03 for 5K.....I'd say that's a great deal :flipoff2:

Get to that rust immediately.

Definitely! I am going to make a build thread as I fix up the truck. All painted surfaces underneath the truck are getting hit with a wire wheel and a coat of POR-15. And everything else is getting soaked in fluid film.

Congrats!

I'm going to be joining the 100 club myself later this month!

Update:

Mechanically the truck is in better condition that I initially thought. It seems like it has been very well maintained.

Timing belt sticker shows it was replaced at 180k in 2014
The engine air filter is clean
The coolant is proper Toyota red
Serpentine belt looks new, as do the coolant hoses

However, I do have three OBD codes from the Evap system.

P0441
P0442
P0446

Any ideas what the cause might be? Cracked hose or failed evap valve?

Congrats on the purchase, and a great price at that! I'm around town as you know, so feel free to hit me up if you need anything.
