I have been up there since then. The only part which was 4WD is the last little bit up the hill to the lake. You'll note the winch line damaged trees. You should not need a winch. I've never had one so never used one. :meh: The corral was Pat Wright's corral.

He was a local rancher and hunting guide and guiding in the area before logging roads were in there. The old pack trail to Placer crossed the river just above Similkmeen Falls.

Yup, I'm sure with good maps and a GPS it's very easy to find Placer. When I went last year I found it following the write up Jeff posted from Four Wheelers Companion, and a 20yr old BC recreation atlas. Took a few wrong turns trying to follow the old original trails as much as possible. But you can take a huge FSR (to quote Mike "high speed gravel") to the base of the hill below the lake. As John pointed out the climb to the lake is not that bad (def not a 6/10), though the descent felt somewhat sketchy when I was there in the snow.

I won't be joining you guys on this trip, going to do a paddling trip instead.

Have fun.

So are any of us going to be at Placer Lake on Saturday afternoon/evening?

We've got a plan change. My son's godfather called to say he got tickets for us and the sons to see Zidane and friends play the Canadian All Stars at BC Place. Nothin better than soccer and beer on a sunny Saturday afternoon. Wish it was at Swangard.

I'm guessing Scalp and Glen are gone already? Anyone have one of them fancy radio doodads and is allowed to talk to Scalp? I'd like to know if anyone's going to be at Placer Lake on Saturday, or will it be just me and the grizzlies?

Don't think Bill and Glenn are gonna be at the lake anymore, they're probably on their way to Hedley by now. Bill left me a phone message saying they were going to be on the move by tonight.... of course that could be subject to change. I don't really feel like taking off to search for them up there. Steve was closing the shop for today, but he's probably left by now if he was going wheelin'. If you're still up for a trip tomorrow Jeff, I'm still in town but not sure if I'll be free or not. Going to play comercial transport mechanic today for my dad.

Any way, my cell is: 604-897-6781 if you want to contact me.

Well bah humbug, I' m at a crossroads now as to what to do. Go camping somewhere for a night, or out to the Hope flight fest for a family outing. Leaning towards the camping of course, while they go to Hope :)

Sylvester perhaps?

Well I see a couple of you local boys (GG, Marcin) are still in town possibly, any of you interested in perhaps seeing that super awesome secret spot up Sylvester road we found a few weeks back?
Perfect place for the kids to play and swim.

You're welcome.;) Did you have the gravel yard deliver it? I probably could have trucked it in for a low price.... might have left more oil in your yard than whoever dropped it off though.

Just wondering if anyone has ever explored the trail that keeps going towards the mountain after the first (hard way) placer turn off and the 2nd (easy way) turn off? We drove it to just past the last clear cut, it got a little technical and tight, but looked very promising, we had to turn around due to lack of time. Will have to get back there once more this year.

Back from the above trip (4 nites) with Bill and 'Sookeye' the great little grandkid of Bill's. We found an absolutely stunning camping spot (location secret). Fantastic weather and great trip. Good group run area. Saw Simon 'Goldboy' in Hedley.
More to come after we unpack.
