Alright, Alright, Alright!
Calling all SoCalTLCA Cruiserheads and 4wheelers...
We're heading to Western Sierra... Thursday to Sunday July 18-21, 2024

UPDATED July 08, 2024: I received quite a bit of information about the area from the veterans and locals in one form or another. There are too many unknowns for parts of the original plan so I've revised the run:

  1. For those who can meet on Thursday 7/18, we will rendezvous for lunch at Shaver Lake Pub and Grub (37.10759, -119.31822) then head out to find camp along Rock Creek Road. I have marked several possible locations one of which was used a couple years ago when SoCal TLCA last visited the area (approximate coordinate 37.09104, -119.16467). After we set up camp, we can check out nearby trails, creeks, and lakes.
  2. We will spend Friday 7/19 driving North/North East to Dinkey Lakes Trailhead then hike to Mystery Lake. The hike is approximately 1.5 mile each way so bring comfortable shoes, water, and a walking stick.
  3. On Saturday 7/20, we will drive to Bald Mountain (37.10470, -119.20568) and explore the area. Depending on road conditions, we may need to hike up to the summit.
  4. Sunday 7/21, we will gather for breakfast before breaking camp and heading home.
I have not been on these trails so we'll travel as far as trail conditions and the least capable rig will allow, that means we may need to turn around and/or find alternatives to get to where we want to go.

Reply here if you are interested in joining our run.

I hope to see you there.

Wait, what...a HYBRID overland base camping run? You mean I can come in my Prius? :flipoff2:

So glad you picked up on it. Your Prius would be the first HYBRID on a HYBRID run! :bounce2: :bounce:
I'll bring the Prius to Sunday's meeting and we can go over her trail worthiness!!!😉

Ok, I've lifted and painted the Prius. I'm ready!

Ok, since I have a new turbo hybrid, tentative yes. Gotta break in the new truck somewhere I guess. That ARB bar behjnd the cab will probably have to come off as the 12 bolts in the side rails and the way it mounts prevents getting a tonneau cover. No wau to otherwise really secure gear in the bed. Cargo net offers no security or weather protection.

Consider this?

So you upgraded your Prius with a TURBO!
Such a good looking rig. That big red bow is a nice touch! Almost a three-toner, black/white/red :D
Does it come with front and rear recovery points? Also, consider soft shackles in case the clearance from the recovery point to the plastic bumper is tight.

It has rear recovery points from ARB. Need to see what I can do up front. Shoot, I just got it home last night and you guys are already spending more of my money. It has sliders and a full Skid Plate underneath.

Got an $8000 quote from Carmax just over internet. Waiting on one from Autonation. Not going to sell it myself. Too much of a hassle. 2013 Prius V in great condition with 94,500 miles.

Pic of rear recovery point, one on each side. Tow hooks underneath the front, both sides. Both front and rear bumpers are ARB steel bumpers.

Do you want to borrow my IndelB fridge? I upgraded to the dual-zone National Luna, so it's just sitting in the garage. LMK.

I'll keep it in mind. I'd need the battery pack Chris mentioned. I have portable solar panels.

I've got an ice chest. Not a great one, so sure. One thing I've learned about the plug in the bed is that it's got a switch in the cab to activate/deactivate it from the cab, you can turn it off when you shut off the engine. No clue yet if you leave the switch on if the plug stays on. I know the manuals recommend leaving the engine running when using the air compressor.
