Removal. Though did lose previous socket that was used to last install. Bought new Performance Tool w83243 2 1/2 socket was too small to fit.Say what? Did you run into an issue on install or during removal?
Suggest you contact Jowett about this.Could there be different cap versions? The Performance Tool w83243 2 1/2 socket was too small to fit.
Justa thought did you actually measure across the flats?Removal. Though did lose previous socket that was used to last install. Bought new Performance Tool w83243 2 1/2 socket was too small to fit.
2-9/16" works with just enough slop to make locating easier, but man this thing is twice the weight of the W83243. It's designed for a 3/4" square drive, so I'm pretty sure you could twist the entire engine block right out of the truck. Might look for another in this size but lighter duty, probably in 1/2" drive? The sockets are a pain in the butt. I tried the Performance Tool W83243, and confirmed that it is just a hair too small to fit. I'm trying the OTC 1904 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000HPLTB2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1
Which is 2-9/16". Hopefully it fits, I'll update when I get it in.
I've yet to find a socket that works other than this one, so I've resigned myself to hoping I don't drop it on my face when changing the filter ...2-9/16" works with just enough slop to make locating easier, but man this thing is twice the weight of the W83243. Would a normalLater production runs of not only the Performance Tool Socket, but a few other brands, have the 2 1/2” socket slightly redesigned… they shrunk it down a hair. Just enough to create fitment issues. It’s part the reason I have not produced another batch.
Send me a message jowett@jowettperformance.com, I’ll try to track down the proper socket.
Would a normal oil filter wrench like this work?Later production runs of not only the Performance Tool Socket, but a few other brands, have the 2 1/2” socket slightly redesigned… they shrunk it down a hair. Yes and no. They are made for removal not installation. And they would probably mar the crap out of the housing.Would a normal oil filter wrench like this work?
On another note: does anyone know if someone is producing a fumoto style drain that will fit in the threaded portion on the bottom of the oem oil filter housing?

I'm pretty sure this is what I got via Jowett.no
THis is what I use and it works great.
For those looking, I managed to source some extra sockets of the proper size/part number. They cost me a little more, but I’ll eat it and keep the old price. Listed on the website now.
Dang. This hurts to hear. I’m a big fan of your stuff, but I understand there’s a lot to deal with right now.No housings, I might close the biz down in a few months.
