This started from a previous thread here about exploring Joshua Tree. I finally got back to the side canyon off of Berdoo Canyon today to explore it.
The good news - although maybe not to everyone - is that it is a pretty challenging side spur. Very, very tight for an 80-series. It is very secluded and quiet and beautiful.
The bad news from my perspective is that it is an out-and-back trail as of now. It did appear to continue past where I turned around but it got even tighter and more technical. No kidding the signs were broken taillights/headlights, plastic body parts and paint scraps on the rocks.
Still I think it is very worthwhile as part of exploring Berdoo Canyon. It's only about 1-hour ordeal (longer with more rigs) and ended up in a great lunch spot.
I have some QuickTime videos shot from the digital camera (http://www.vimeo.com/user:122362/clips). The videos really capture how tight and non-stop the obstacles were and are a lot cooler than the pics
.
Ok, enough with the talk - the pics.
First, we came upon an abandoned pickup completely blocking Berdoo Canyon. Two other vechicles coming down had already begun work on a bypass when I showed up. This is what happens with 1-wheel drive
Second, the "gatekeeper" you encounter as you try to just get onto the trail.
