i had found a 60 on here in the 'parting out section" and was really only interested in the axles for my fj40 "project isabel". so i contacted the seller, timinca, on here and we worked out a deal on the entire rig. turns out that it runs and drives but is missing a few parts, won't pass smog and the radiator has a leak.
so last night ryan aka greenfox and myself made the trip to the east bay area with the truck and trailer to pick up the 60. we met tim at the storage yard where he was keeping the rig. when we pulled up to it, i was pleasently surprised by the good overall condition of the cruiser. it started right up, the radiator hardly leaked, the body is in decent shape with just a tiny amount of rust and a few dents and bruises. so after looking at it for a couple of minutes i made up my mind that i would'nt part it out. i'm driving this baby!
so we loaded it onto the trailer; pretty tall deck-over but the 60- drove right up the short ramps in 4lo. i thought the t-case was gonna hit the back edge of the trailer but it rolled right over the top. so we tied the 60 down and headed home. once there, i pulled it off the trailer and parked it for the night since it was after 9pm by then.
this morning i went out early, at 6 am, and started it up again. drove it for a minute and was satisfied that it would be safe to drive, as per the seller who was super cool to deal with and very honest.
an hour later i loaded the kids into it, dropped them off at daycare and school and proceeded to the shop. there i installed a new radiator i had in stock, topped off all the fluids, gave it a bath and pressure washed the engine compartment. looks pretty good, drives well and the ac works.
so the plan is to fix a few little things, install a stereo and a few other missing items and drive it for a few months.
my usual DD is an 84 hj47 troopie but it does not have ac. well, not yet. i have been collecting the parts to convert it to Ac but they're not that easy to find. luckily i just scored a factory bandeirante ac unit from jonathan at TLC for it. i have some of the other components already but i'll have to do some fab work to get it all done with the 2H engine in it. but that's another story.
so until the troopie has AC, i think i'll drive the 60 for now. it'll be great for hauling the kids, shop parts and whatever else.
i'll try to snap a couple of pics tomorrow and will post them. it also happens to be my favorite wagon color; charcoal grey.
i am in need of a few items if anybody has them, mostly the entire ebrake assy. i need the handle, bucket, cover and cables. lemme know if anybody has a spare set. i did start a thread in the wanted section as well........
