Jerry Can - Weld or scrap?

On my most recent the jerry can got a bit “displaced” in the trailer and hit some bolts. I got a small hole, some prominent scratch marks.
It’s a Wavian, so ~100$.

Have someone weld it or throw it away?

Weld Tack from Outside (make sure no Vapors or Puge with Carbon Dioxide) then POR-15 Tank Seal from Inside ($15 ebay)

I have sealed some and Re Powdered others.

Steel Cans are getting harder to Find. Mine are Blitz Brand.

I use to buy them for Cheap.

Plastic Scepters are a Good Substitute but about $45 each.

I found a cool 2,5 liter can, with Chinese writing on it. Perfect for lawn equipment, unfornately a crack in the side. Junked it

I'm not aware of Blitz having ever made the Wavian type of fuel can. All of their product that I've seen is the old school type that rust out around the bottom pinch weld and use a screw-in nozzle that leaks. Not even close to the same quality of fuel container.

Military used Blitz Style Cans in WW2 and up.

I use a Siphon hose instead of Spout, but Blitz do Leak if not Tight - Screwdriver Across Flats will get the Lids Tight.

They do Rust at seam, but only if Left Dry.

I think the US Military/Nato uses the Plastic Scepters now but I've never been in the Service.

In nearly 60 years of camping and off-roading I've never had a good experience with Blitz cans. Ever. Well, except for the one that was cut up and turned into a tool box way before you could buy such a thing. That one worked rather well.

OTOH on a trip down Saline Valley Rd (those who've been there KNOW) many years ago one of my group had a full Wavian can come loose and perform cartwheels down that miserable road. It was slightly scratched up and had one small dent in it. It didn't then and hasn't ever leaked.
Top-tip for Wavain can owners, find one of the Swiss nozzles for them. They are expensive, but can drain the fuel can in just a couple of minutes. That's a full can emptied in 2-3 minutes!

I'm not a fan of the Scepter cans, but I'd take one of those any day over a Blitz. If you're happy with Blitz cans then go for it, but IME you're the far outlier.
