The Jeep JL is like no other jeep that has come before it. The new Jeep JL offers several different axles setups as well as multiple motor and transmission options. So why would the aftermarket axle ratios stay the same as they were for YJ, TJ, and JK? They shouldn’t!
With the new addition of the 8-speed automatic transmission and the 4-cylinder turbo the gearing should change too, right? RIGHT!
That is what we do here at Nitro Gear and Axle, we provide the most innovative and intuitive axle parts on the market. Once you modify your Jeep JL by adding bigger tires, and excessive weight it’s going to throw your JL out of its optimal power band. Operating your Jeep JL outside of its power band is going to result in several issues some of which will be, decreased fuel economy, improper shift points, and higher transmission temperatures due to excessive shifting. These higher transmission temperatures have been linked to a decrease in transmission longevity. Here at Nitro Gear & Axle, we don’t want to sell a gear set with a ratio that will get you “close enough” to where you want to be. We want to provide our customers with exactly the gear ratio they need to put their Jeep JL back to its optimum performance level.
All of these reasons are why Nitro Gear & Axle went back to the drawing board and developed JL specific gear sets. That’s correct, gear sets designed specifically for your Jeep JL. Other companies design gear sets in multiple ratios that will suit multiple vehicles. These other ratios, such as, 4.56, 4.88, 5.13 and 5.38 only get you close to your power band, they will not put you exactly back into your power band. Nitro Gear & Axle’s new JL gears were engineered specifically for your Jeep JL, and for the most common tire sizes that are available, 35s, 37s, and 40s.
