JDM BJ73 parts source needed

Hi guys. just bought a 1989 JDM middy, wasn't planning on it but couldn't pass it up. Just want to mention how impressed I was with the performance of the 3B on the 4 hour drive home. Didn't have to shift outa 5th up hills! Way more power than Canadian BJ70's. Did they throw some 4b's in a few 89's when they discontinued the 3B to fill a void?

Anyway, I'm having trouble finding parts sources for this little rig. Like 24v alternators without the vacum pump, rotary injection pump, relays etc. Thnx for any info, PICS to come!

oh and also, do these come with a separate water sedimenter or is it just that bleed valve at the bottom of the fuel filter. thnx agn

well the alternator is at an alt./starter shop. They called me this afternoon and said it's fubar and that they can't find parts or a new one anywhere.
My toyota dealership here has no listing for a BJ73 at all
When I get the altenator back I'll post the part number.
Since it doesn't have a vacum pump on board, wonder if I could change the pulley and make one like this work??

cruiserparts.net can get anything, but sometimes if it isn't in stock it can take a painfully long time, but there prices are the best i've seen on brand new toyota stuff...

G and S cruiser parts is great, very helpful guys, good prices and very lightly used stuff from what i've seen out of them. Stuff get's to me quick and it always what I told it was.


I got my fubared altenator re done at a local shop, new windings and everything, the guy actually made some of it from what I understood. He didn't seem very bothered by it being 24V out of an old japanese truck which surprised me, it took a week but it looked new and works flawless... St. Thomas, starter and alternator.

Between those two vendor and Crushers I've always been able to find what I want/need...

Got me curious what is the difference between this 70 and Canadian 70s.
Wondered if it could be your axle gearing. Any ideas the difference in power?

Rotary pump. Loved my little 73. Decent mileage and decent power.

sorry, I'm on the east coast of Canada, in New Brunswick.
The alternator is a denso. The toyota part number is 27060-58090. I found a couple of places in China, great price too but you have to buy 30 at a time! I'm so tempted to try that forklift one cause it's right in the states but we all know how that could turn out....thnx for any help guys

The BJ73 has the 3B-II engine and it's a bit different than the standard 3B that came in North American trucks. The rotary pump is certainly less robust, but it does have the advantage of often giving better response - and it's not diaphragm controlled like the inline 3B pumps.

yes, no vacum pump. Here's the alternator. These big chinese companies don't sell less than 30 at a time, but I sent them a request anyway, no response yet -

I finally found one, the ebay seller rareelectrical has them in stock in the US for $205! Here's the link to them again -(this is not the actual alt. I needed, just a link to the company)

I told them they should list a few 27060-58090's on ebay for JDM cruiser owners. The only down side is shipping. I'm assuming he's going to charge me the same shipping price that's listed in the link above. $61.50 to all Canadians, while guys in Maine 1 hour from my house get free shipping? But maybe I shouldn't complain too much, can you imagine what toyota would charge for this alternator if they carried them!

"Cruiserparts.net" ...... will tell you your desired part or parts is in stock when it
IS NOT.
They will then tell you it will be in stock in a couple of weeks when it WILL NOT.
You will then be told that it might take several months which is probably the ONLY ACCURATE statement that you will receive.
After you cancel the order ( with their concurrence ) you will see that your credit card was charged anyway and the dance starts all over again.
THIS IS BASED ON PERSONAL EXPERIENCE and is not unique to me.

that's why i always use paypal. if it's taking way too long, demand your money back. If the company doesn't comply, make a paypal claim against them. you'll be refunded immediately by paypal until the investigation is over. if the company can't show a tracking number to prove the item is on the way to you, you'll win the claim. If they can show a tracking number, then you're about to receive your item anyway, but you got to keep your money in your pocket while you waited.

3B II is a rotory pump which seems to give better fuel mileage and a quieter engine.
not sure about the robust quality of the rotory but i have not had any issues. the low sulfer diesel can cause the rubber O rings to leak so make sure you run a good quality fuel conditioner IN EVERY TANK. there is lots of info about the different conditioners on Mud.
the 3B II is an unique engine, some like it some don't ... i like it.
