What is everyone’s experience with the JBL premium audio system in the LC250? Has anyone compared it to the base (10 speaker) system? Does anyone know the specs on it (watts, number of tweeters, subs, etc.)?

Thanks!

Needs more thump! I don't have any specs but I'm not overly impressed with the "premium" system. My 13 year old LX570 had better sound. Granted, it is a Lexus but it was 13 years old.

agree with BigMF

I've been talking to a few aftermarket stereo installers for my 1958 Edition. With regard to putting a sub in the factory Toyota location (the rear hatch), all of them say it's not a great spot, too shallow, and Toyota just does it to be able to say the vehicle comes with one.

Did they mention if there was a factory speaker connection available in the tailgate? Would make sense that in the factory wiring loom all connections would be available...but not necessarily used based on options selected.

Pretty sure the factory sub is going to be in the side of the cargo area, not the rear hatch. That's where it has been for the 120/150 line.
Pretty common on 4th/5th gen 4runners for people to buy the JBL enclosure and put their own sub/amp. My 5th gen came with JBL and I replaced the stock 8" sub with an aftermarket one, plus a 500watt amp.

The new JBL in the 250 sounds more crisp and clear compared to the JBL in the 200, but it doesn’t have as much bass.

All in all, it’s pretty good, but not the best.

So does anyone know the system specs? I have not seen anything online that indicates details of the system other than "14 speaker JBL", which does not tell me very much.

It sucks for the premium choice. There's no envelopment of sound. From the front seats it sounds like an olde timey stereo with two speakers in the dash.

I did not hear the systems before purchase. The quality is below my worst case expectation. The quality is what I would expect from a non-premium system in a $35K car.

Can someone tell me where the factory sub-woofer is located? There's a speaker grill in the tail gate ... nothing else in the back. The two grills in the rear, passenger side are for air conditioning/heat...the other side is for the 12V battery.

My guess is that there is no room in the liftgate for a sub in the 4Runners since the rear window goes down inside the door. This is what the liftgate looks like in the 250 and I can't see how that speaker on the left side of the picture (below) is NOT the sub. I agree that the location is sub-par (see what I did there ;) ) since the door is shallow and doesn't provide the necessary physics for "real" bass.

Okay...this makes sense. It's somewhat similar to the "sub-woofer" in the 80 series. Not very effective...and since there is no cross over it's form only ...not very much function. Good thing I'm getting along in age ...and my hearing is not what it used to be...

I purchased the 1958 series to get back to the roots of the Land Cruiser...I had enjoyed several of the 80 and 100 series prior to the 200 series. I found myself very disappointed with the 200 series. It was a giant Marshmallow..yes very capable, but not enjoyable driving on a daily basis. From there I went to a Porsche Cayenne...had several and ended up with the Transsyberria...still have it... it's a very capable off road vehicle that is super fun to drive.

The 250 is everything a LC should be...even with some of it's shortcomings...it's like a modern 60/62...and those still look and perform pretty darn well.

So back to the Sub-Woofer...not sure it's worth the effort now...will wait to see what aftermarket option are created in the coming months...I'll bet it will be fun to see and experience that. The 1958 is almost like a blank canvas...

Nope. It's in the rear hatch. You can see the grille for it there (even though it's not in the 1958).

The sides of the rear are devoted to fans and ducting for the hybrid battery, as well as the start battery.

This is a Pioneer setup (probably in foreign markets), but the speaker location and size is probably the same.

I put one of these in my 80 and it does a good job supplying a “mature” level of bass. But I really don’t want to have to add to a new trucks system.

That's the first pic I've seen of the rear hatch; the only 250 I've seen in person was a 1958 which didn't have that.
Wow, that's a really poor design decision. No wonder everyone is complaining about the JBL system.
