Frame by front door hinge is a clear, easy-to-access location that is not suggested by the FSM.

It's where the scissor jack goes so it's not like they're saying 'don't push here'. My guess is they want the stands at the far ends for stability. At the frame horns, however, would be right in the way of trying to slide under from the front. No-go in my book. I have, however, used that spot as a redundant support if not approaching from the front. No reason to have extra stands sitting on the shelf. They can only save your life if they're under the truck.

Ok, so now we're getting somewhere.

Frame by front door hinge is a clear, easy-to-access location that is not suggested by the FSM. Anybody else use this spot frequently?

Those are the same spots (open circles) I use for jack stands with the exception being the rear when I have to do something like swap out rear springs.

Sure, but with scissor/bottle jack use you'd only be lifting one point, whereas jack stand use would mean that the whole front end is supported. I have no concerns from a strength standpoint, but I wonder what % of the vehicle's weight would be forward of the stands at that location.

UPDATE: My 3 ton jack can't lift high enough to let me get my 12 ton stands under the frame rails near the front edge of the doors

I can't remember my model, other than I got it at Costco. A prime consideration was lift height. You can block it with a cut 2x4 or 2x6 if you need to cheat the height.
