Motortrend says that Toyota will likely also assign this smaller Land Cruiser variant a different chassis code (maybe J150 or J200)

Do you guys think this would be the series number for the new Prado?

Should be the same code as the GX550, or close, correct?

90,120,150, now 180? Lexus should already have it assigned for ordering purposes.

I was thinking 250. But I think you are right, should be 180 jumping 30 every generation.

That has been the pattern, however they also went 25,40,43,45,55,60,62,70,73,74,77,80,100,
105,200,300 so realistically it could be anything since it is a new platform!

Hope you are doing well!

Looking forward to getting back on the trail soon!!’

For the longest time, the rumor was that it was supposed to be the j180… since the GX reveal, people have been calling it the j250. Not sure if that’s what it actually is or if assumptions were made and people just ran with it and started spreading that around… there was another guy on here that was saying the GX is the j252 and lc Prado was the j250.

Similar, just not the same!

I think for many people (current market not necessarily traditional LC purists) the new LC is going to be a better suited vehicle than a 300.

It should be a more straightforward plan to get to the vehicle to the point they plan to or at least dream about utilizing the vehicle!

Think 4Runner for grown ups or a GX for less pretentious!

Should be exciting reveal when the time arrives!

It depends which market though,
in some markets like the GCC, you can get LC300 twin turbo v6 diesel or twin turbo Petrol with lockers for cheaper than the current GX 460, with much more power, better off road angles and just a better overall vehicle.

I imagine the same will happen with the 250 in terms of pricing, some versions will overlap with the 300.

So I would rather just get the superior vehicle rather than get something for looks only ( and then that's subjective)

The underpinnings also won't be 100% identical, yes it is based on the same platform but not all the parts will be identical.
Already from what we have seen, the 300 has more underbody armoring, bigger upper control arm, better off road angles and ground clearance in stock form.
Quoting @TeCKis300 from an earlier post - post number 32

''Looking at the chassis comparison, the 300-series is still larger and built to a higher standard with more robust cross sections, larger brackets, and more substantial elements. There's quite a bit but I'll just point out a few. Maybe others can as well.
1) Front bump stops - the GX has a single stop, the LX utilizes two as does todays 200-series
2) Body mounts - the two largest ones in the mid section, the 300-series brackets are larger and tie into a longer section of frame
3) Front LCA pickup points - 300-series pickups are tighter in to the frame and would be geometrically stronger/stiffer''

And I am sure other things that would also be in favor of the 300.
So to me in a market where both will exist, it will be difficult to justify the 250 over the 300, especially when they can be had for similar pricing.

I really like how the GX 550 looks, but would I pay more for a GX 550 over a more powerful and superior LC300? It will be hard to convince myself of that.
Which is why the Middle East isn't getting the GX 550, instead we are getting 4cyl Prado and I definitely won't be paying close to 300 money ( and in some cases even more )for a 4cyl Prado.

However for you guys in the US, you don't have cheaper versions of the 300 so the fact they are so similar, is great news for you as you finally get a cheaper Land Cruiser. Maybe you could end up with a tune to get more power soon.
I am sure guys like @bjowett would be happy to point out any easy worthy upgrades from the 300 that would bolt right in the 250 when the time comes.

Case in point, its all a matter of perspective I guess, depends on which market you are in.

So far the 250 looks better than the 300… at least to me. Since they’re basically the same size and have the same under pinnings, it’s kind of gotten to the point where I don’t care about 300 anymore

No way I'd take a 550/new Prado LC over a 300 Series GR Sport if both were offered here. Regardless of them all sharing the same general chassis going forward, the 550/LC Prado will still fall short of the 300, as described above. Now, 90% of us would probably never notice the subtle differences but after owning multiple 5th Gens, GX460's and 200 Series LC/LX I can tell you that I still prefer the slight differences of the 200 Series and the same could likely be said for the 300. We had planned to add a 300 Series before they announced that they wouldn't be coming to the states and were obviously very disappointed when they decided not to bring them here. This is the only reason why we ended up with another GX460, it was an easy hold over option for us while we wait for whatever comes next.

But this is all just silly talk because it appears unlikely that the 300 will ever make it to our shores as a new car option. I am excited to see what they ultimately have in store for us with whatever this reintroduced LC nameplate vehicle might be but like most I expect it to be along the lines of a new generation LC Prado to mirror the GX 550 and if that's the case it'll have to look as good as the 550 Over Trail and fall a few thousand less on the asking price for myself to choose it over the Lexus.
