What is the deal with the J Pipe weld breaking at the flange.?

I R&Rd mine w/a new on 10K miles ago, and now that familiar PFTT PFTT sound is back.

This time I'm gonna just bring it to a muffler shop to have it welded rather than replacing it again, can they put on a better weld that'll hold up longer?

Is there anything I need to do to get this thing to live longer?

Bracket #60 needs to be in place and secure and check the motor mounts.....vibrations and the torque of the engine applies stress to the pipe......

Where did that pic of bracket #60 come from? It looks like the SOR site, but I can't find it on there.

I'm sick of replacing this gasket every thousand miles. I bet a bracket like that would go a long way toward making it last longer.

That and my new motor mounts, installed since the last gasket I put on.

Thanks.

Are we talkin about the same J Pipe?

I was referring to the one that runs from the EGR to underneath the rear part of the exhaust manifold.

Really good point on the motor mounts! I'll bet mine is worn on the drivers side and allowing too much wiggle.

Same question- Bump.
What part of the flage are you welding Toad?

I don't see how motor mounts or welding is going to help. The EGR pipe is secured to the block so it moves with the block.

I may be crazy but----I replaced that gasket 5-6 times in the last 6 years, but I replaced my catylitic converter 2 years ago, and have not blown that EGR gasket since. Any chance that increased back pressure from a dying cat contributed to this issue?

I saw that Ducks had a new EGR j pipe from SOR-it has a very beefy flange, and looks very nice. I think next time mine blows out, I'm going to try the heavier j-pipe.
