Anyone see anything different with my dash?

Stay tuned as I try to do the impossible! I have purchased the Advanced Keys (AK-PSB05) Push-Start Ignition System and will be installing it within the next few weeks or so...

By the way, does anyone know what item this part of the dash was a space holder for?

Hmm, you got my attention.

I don't recall ever seeing a factory fitted item in that blank - I've moved my spotlight On/Off switch there, mainly cos the switch I had fits it perfectly.

How does this work?
Do you still have to put the key in the ignition?
I like the novelty of it.

I can see the merit of this if it eliminates the key and uses some kind of proximity fob that makes the starting system more secure.

Hmm.... That looks interesting. It looks like it's come out of a later model Toyota, I know that the Highlanders (Klugers down in AU) came out with those. Goldy, the idea is that you carry a 'Electronic key' and when you're in range it disables the security and allows the car to start by pushing the button. If i also remember correctly when you move too far away and the car looses signal with the key the engine shuts down.

I'll be keeping an eye on this one! I think that there would be some serious work in matching the electronics of the security system to a 60 series cruiser if that is your intention of course.

I was just thinking about this the other day! Definitely interesting if used for security purposes. I'll be following this one, too.

Very interesting.. Here's what I pulled up on it..

I can't tell though if it's 190.00 or 350.00 I think the one you are posting is 190.00 and it does NOT have a remote start capability. The others seem to but, are the higher price.. Is this correct? And must be used in conjunction with a Viper or similar auto theft in order to enable the push button start...

You can't use remote start on a carb vehicle......

Though something like this would be cool as hell, my main concern would be what happens if it fails when you're out on a trail ? Stock system is pretty damn simple, and simple to troubleshoot.

Just sayin' ...

You wanna bet... Use a 12V trunk popping solenoid to act as a throttle kicker and a bracket off the carb to hold the solenoid and rod/hardware to operate the linkage. Link the wiring/remote were it triggers the starter and solenoid at the same time.. Started every time on my 1955 Ford F100--- 460 roller motor with a Holley 1050 Dominator carburetor.

This works on both manual and automatic transmissions alike. Just be sure your always in neutral on a standard or you might be chasing it down the street..

Don't see any reason why it wouldn't work on our 60's....

I have to disarm the alarm system and get in. Press the brake and push the button (hold it down and the engine will crank up just like when you're turning the key to crank). No key is necessary.

I can see the merit of this if it eliminates the key and uses some kind of proximity fob that makes the starting system more secure.

I decided against the proximity sensor because I like having the control of whether or not to open my doors when standing next to the car. I may change my mind later, but for now my fob button has to be pushed to open the doors. (I've got full power door locks and it's great when you've got kids...)

I've got the $190 version. I just wanted to get rid of the key. It already doesn't work very well in the doors and with my ignition switch broken, it was time to move on to modern technology. I'm not sure if it would cost the equivalent amount to have all new key cylinders in the doors, hatch and ignition, but I felt it was time to update and simplify.

I agree that is the major question, but here are my thoughts. Electronics have no moving parts to fail. Yes they can still fail, but how's your A/C and smog computers working in your 60? Electronics can be pretty robust. On this system, from what I've studied, you can run a dual key and keyless option no problem. If you want a backup plan, there it is. Stock starting system on this truck is easy to troubleshoot, but it's also easy to steal...

As cool as remote start would be, I'm still not sold on putting one in my manual transmission FJ60. Knowing me, I'd leave it in gear and crank the car right through the garage...

Here are the parts that are included with the Advanced Keys (AK-PSB05) that I purchased. Since their website isn't as informative as it could be, I'll try to be as detailed as possible in this thread for wiring and setup. This is so you guys can see the complexity of the system...it's really not that bad!

Parts not shown - Push Button. It's in my truck looking cool.

Parts shown clockwise from top left - wiring harness, push button mounting ring and adhesive, backup relay system, module.
