I can't seem to get these damn "new" threads to work properly.

I've been assured they work fine but it hasn't since we went to this new software.

What I expect is if I DON'T view a thread that when I return it will still have the "new" next to the thread.

This doesn't seem to be the case as sometimes it will globally mark all threads in the entire site as read and other times it will not mark any of them read from my last visit.

Is there some setting on my end that needs to be changed for this to start working properly?

Rick , I experience this too .. it's driven me to drink . . Pretty s***ty when you loose sight of what was marked 'new' moments earlier .. WTF ??

the forum is on a 30 minute timeout....used to be 15, so it's actually better now.

log in, sit for 30 minutes, hit refres, and all the news change....

that's the way the software works, they are looking at other methods, but don't know when/if they will do it (or, frankly, if the server can handle the huge load increase that results.....)

Other forums work the way I described. Just thought it was tracked through a cookie or something and I had a setting issue.

"other forums"....all 3.0.x based vBulletin based forums operate exactlee the same....

vBulletin is exploring cookie-type mark-read systems, may be available on their next major release.
