Converter will be heading my way soon. Hopefully I get it by Friday so I can get to it this weekend. Woohoo!

GREAT NEWS!!!!!

I hope this works and forward to seeing you on the road. Been quite a project.

I got the converter today

Time to get on with it!

When I pull the motor, I'll set them side by side and measure/take some pics. Very excited! I also ordered all the parts for the y-link steering conversion ala jcardona1. Extremely excited about keepin my 2.5", but if I gotta go 4", so be it

I have been looking at that Y link set-up myself, looks like a simple solution. I ended up going Slee 4" for mine, the OME 2.5" I have now is struggling to handle the weight so it was a good reason in itself to upgrade.

Can you get some pictures of the clearance you have from pan to tie rod before you swap it over?

tie rod clearance

Here are some pics of clearance (and lack thereof) between tie rod and oil pan on the 4bd with ome 2.5" heavy

Any reason the pan can be "clearanced" there if you didn't want to move the tie rod to the front?

Thanks for the pictures, going to have to compare when I get the Slee 4" on.

It would be relatively easy to clearance the pan there since the oil pump and pick up is at the back. but loss in oil capacity would occur.

Can the engine be mounted higher? (I guess I'll find out soon enough)

You really couldn't clearance the pan enough because of the oil pump. And you can't really get the engine higher if you are using the stock air filter housing and location. I considered moving g the air intake to the driver side, but in the end felt the stock location might work better, as far as convenience, and it was maybe less work? One thing I will probably end up doing is putting a trans drop spacer, if it turns out the drive line angles are too out of whack. And some custom skids to go along as well.

The Isuzu oil pumps are closer to the middle of the engine. Not much you can cut from the front edge of the sump before you're into the pump.

wait, how does the stock air filter housing/location limit the height of a completely different engine?

just saying, presumably there is some custom fabbed ducting into the turbo and then from the turbo, through intercooler, to intake manifold.

which could be fiddled with - or is there a clearance issue?

I am just a dunce who is confused is all.

There are clearance issues with the hood on the clean air intake to the turbo, different routing might be possible, but not with my set-up. Also there is not a lot of clearance on the adapter by the starter for the fire wall. There is a "bump" on the fire wall driver side that keeps me from putting the engine much higher. I did knock it down a little with a hammer

Yesterday I pulled the motor, and put the new converter in. While the motor is out I have a few leaks to fix. One is the dipstick, a little JB weld and back on it goes. And I have a leak from one of the water pump inlets (threads). Then I have one leak at a AN fitting that I need to address, no biggie. I also pulled the turbo and drilled and tapped the manifold for the pyrometer sender. Got that in.

Here is a pic of the two converters

You can definitely see the difference in the snout length

And today I had a couple of hours between bids to get a little done.

Here are some pics of the coolant lines for the turbo, I finally got those hooked up and routed.

I also prepared the "more power" bolt to make "more power"

I put one reverse turn on the pump, I'll start there and see where it gets me once I'm rolling.

As it sits, the motor is in the bay, and tomorrow I should have a little time to get it mated to the trans.

getting excited!

Today I have the engine and trans fully mated, and oil and fuel lines back on. I had to make one new oil line, no biggie. I am getting very excited to start 'er up and see if it goes! I really hope it does! Just need to hook up all the air and water plumbing, put the fan in and.........drive it!

Then I have to trouble shoot, build a fan shroud and do the exhaust, plus finish up the wiring for gauges, add a newer bigger ground, and probably a few other things that I can't think of right now. Unless something goes horribly wrong, I should be posting a first drive video this weekend.

Great update! Looks like you have gotten lots done. Looking forward to the weekend update!

So the only clearance issues with the oil pan on this swap is between the pan and the tie rod ?

Yes, as far as I can tell. I have all the components for the y-link steering except the right hand drive steering arm(waiting patiently). That will be going on asap. I am not sure if this motor will fit stock height, but it appears to fit with the OME 2.5" heavy that is on my truck. I haven't pulled the springs to see how it sits on the bumpstops. As soon as I pull the tie rod I will drop it to the stops and see what clearance is there.

Yeah, me too! I got this pesky "job" thing to do wed. and fri. or else it would be rolling tomorrow. Oh well, what's a few more days......

It's ALIVE!!!

It runs, drives, stops, and turns! Drove it a little just now! I'll get some video up soon!

I have one water leak to fix, everything else looks good so far

Here's a pic of my wife putting on the fan, she's as excited as me about getting this thing goin!
