Congrats!!!

I just got my 1FZ out today, so finally underway. Cant wait to be at your stage! Having a supporting wife make this all worth it and enjoyable.

Thanks Jeremy! I'll be watching your progress, excited to see yours come together!

Thank you! I am excited too.

What's left now? Hood exhaust....

I always find the last 5% takes the longest because I am usually driving and enjoying it by then and not interested in working on it lol.

For the exhaust are you going to try and run it inside the frame down the drivers then stock routing out the back? I am hoping to do that with mine so I have room for the exhaust break and stuff.

I will route exhaust in the stock location. What's left is gauges, then some tuning. I need to pull the water pump and re seal it on the back side, it leaks a little. Some minor seeps to deal with on the oil filter bracket, tidy up some wiring, then do the y link steering too. Still got some work to do before its ready for a trip.

Hard to tell with the exhaust noise but how is the transmission performing so far? Do you like the lower stall?

It works ok, I was driving it a little today, and I could tell there was some slipping, so I topped it off and it seems more solid. The trans grabs right off the line. The lower stall mimics how the 3fe feels perfectly. There is a slight shift delay between 2nd and third (I think those are the gears that it has a little hesitation, but it might be between 1st and 2nd). Manually shifting it doesn't work very smooth, but keeping it in the 3 it does very well. But I also haven't driven it too much after topping off the trans.

I think I have an air leak in the fuel system, and power is down after a little more driving, as compared to how it felt in the NPR. I am going to change out some fuel lines and add an inline pump before the water/fuel separator. I kinda think it is a combination of the lift pump not being able to pull enough fuel and a slight leak, or the slight leak is causing not enough fuel to be drawn from the tank. I filled the tank up today, so that alleviated my concern that it was sucking air in the tank, now it's probably sucking air somewhere else.

Reasons why I think there is a fueling issue- The engine seems to lose "prime". If I don't pump the pump, it is hard to get started. And after I get it idling I can crack each injector one at a time and it seems to smooth it out. Also, there is a stumble when revving it up that goes away with a little time. There is also white smoke associated with this, that goes away too after it's run a little. This also seems to cause the trans to have a hiccup on one shift.

But today I did put a few miles on it, got it to 55 mph and it cruised very well, I was impressed! But because of the lack power, it takes it a little bit to get there.

On the other hand, I did get a few things done today

Got the exhaust pointed down, had to cut slits and weld it over to increase the bend so it cleared the firewall.

The senders from the 3fe thread right in to the isuzu t-stat housing, and are now hooked up and I have a functional temp gauge

I also put a radiator overflow line to the coolant tank

A new look, almost ready for the hood

I received the pillar gauge pods for the EGT and boost gauge, those will go in tomorrow, and then to the exhaust shop on wed.

Good work! I like the temporary exhaust, something to be said for having it straight up off the turbo, well not so much for doing road trips though.

Got to get in touch with your inner red-neck every once in a while:beer:

Sounds like you have a fuel supply issue, its hard to find leaks pre lift pump since its pulling vacuum. Few thing to start, try installing a clear line from your water separator on the cowl to the lift pump. See if its pulling any air bubbles.

From there check for tank vacuum from a non vented cap possibly?

Do you have the kick down cable connected and adjusted correctly? That dictates heavily how that transmission shifts and holds power so they need to be set correctly. I would set it tighter than stock to account for the added torque.

The exhaust going down looks much better.

One word of warning on oil feed line, it looks a bit too close to the manifold. Even though they are bradded steel the rubber inside cant handle the heat from that.

Thanks for the insight Jeremy, the tv cable isn't connected at all. I need to make a little bracket and get that on. I'll get a clear line on and check for bubbles. Would using some sort of insulating sleeve work? Header wrap of some sort? Also, there are two return lines for the stock toyota set-up, I only have one of them connected, could that be causing a fuel delivery issue?

Yeah the TV cable should be very high o the listto grt connected. With out it the trans has no way to increse line pressure. Can burn it up real fast.

Yeah insulating sleve will help but you need to get it off the manifold to prevent contact hotspots.

I do not think the open return will matter, its actually a tsnk breather thst goes to a charcoal canister.

Funny you say that, I think I burned up my trans. I mounted the tv cable today and went for a drive, no third gear. It will shift from 1st to second, then it just revs out and doesn't drop in gear. Bummer. I played around with different tensions, no change. I did smell a burning type of smell on the longer drive the other day (5 miles). Wondered what it was. I am also wondering if running the two coolers contributed like was mentioned before, or just not having the tv cable hooked up did it in.

And it's running like s***. Bummer. Got a few things to try tomorrow, like bleed the pump of air the right way ( just looked at my manual), check injection pump timing, etc. I changed around to some different fuel lines, just made it worse, so I changed back. I also added a pump before the first filter to help push fuel through it, just a slight change, hardly noticeable. It just has a bad stumble at higher rpm. It hits a wall. I messed around with fueling screw too, but ended up nowhere with that.

I also finished up routing the boost gauge, went for a little 2nd gear drive, made 5psi, woo-hoo.

The oil line for the turbo sits about 2.5" off the manifold, I adjusted the position a little.

So, I got some work to do

Fricking sucks about the tranny. Sorry to hear about that...

Oh man that's not good!!

Was cautiously optimistic that the kick down cable would not have caused any damage.

Your fueling issue sounds like mine, a high RPM miss and white smoke? Mine seemed to disappear as I bleed the air out. I also had some good success with Lubro Moly Diesel purge. It seemed to really clean up the running and the smoke. I take it this issue was was not there when it was in the NPR?

Good luck!!

One good thing about the A440 is they are cheap to get, got both mine for $100 each.

wow, sorry to hear about the trans.

At least replacements shouldn't be expensive, right?

Yep, misses at high rpm and white smoke. Ran perfect in the NPR. Anybody got a trans for sale? I am a retard, I knew that cable was there for a reason! But I didn't think it was THAT important! DOH! Live and learn.......

I narrowed my engine doing that down too air getting into the feed line. It turned out it would pull air bubbles in at higher RPM, I had the feed and return too close in the tank. The return was putting air out and the feed was sucking it right back in lol. Took a clear feed line to find the issue.

Keep your eyes on the classifieds for the A440 I found one of mine there.

We have all been there. I figure il be there two more times with mine before complete. I did finally get my flex plate back and making slow progress.

Keep pushing forward
