I am putting the top back on my 71 FJ40 after 15 years, I havent had the fiberglass part since the start, but have had the sides. i got the sides installed and all seem fine. Finally found a fiberglass top to put on, and it came with an extra (nice) drip rail thats rust free. i put it on just to check and i have a huge overhang. It does match the fiberglass top so not sure wtf is going on here.
any ideas?

No clue. My 76 hardtop is about flush up the sides of the 72 ragtop tub. Up at the windshield there is overhang.

Is it possible the cap is from a hard top with corrugated sides. Those the sides were straight and did not angle in the the later top were rear corner windows. The early corrugated cap would over hand on the sides and in the back. It will also not have the piece riveted across the front that bolt to the front of the windshield. Mid 65 to 1/75 has four bolts. 1/75 plus only has two. The early cap was also taller. Better pictures of the cap. Would help.

X2 to it being a corrugated cap
does it have a roof vent in the rear?
if in good shape is probably worth more to the right person than the later cap you need.

actually yes. it has this one.
also, the front does angle in, it just all seemed to be slightly bigger.
also also, the new driprail i got with it has no holes in it

Definitely the wrong cap. Not all earlier cap had that vent and I later style cap ever had a vent.
so is this a corrugated top? i swore from what i read they are all the same lol.
