Replaced my U-Joints the other day. What I notices was that the “ears” on the shafts were different thicknesses.

You can see, with the cups in the correct location, C-clips installed easily, that one is flush and the other is recessed due to the thickness of the material.

i had a darn similar experience when i was installing those same exact DANA 253221X Spider Gears that we both got from the economy grade section over at rock-auto

i would take my Harbor Freight grinder buddy and have him take the meat down on that all the spots ,

It's very common with cast or forged parts to see machining variations, with respect to a theoretical datum (like a centerline), due to manufacturing tolerances. For static components (for example, disc brake calipers), it's normally overlooked. For rotating components, the offsets are compensated for with balancing operations.

The differences you see on your driveshaft are perfectly acceptable.

this is the way my next door neighbor mr. OEMalltheTIME replaced both mine for me all for only a 30pk of keystone ice 22oz tall boys ...
