is this rust worth fixing?

hi,

i am looking at an 84 '60 with 140k miles for $2800 bucks.

engine is good, body is good except for rust around rain gutter (see pic)

is this super expensive to have a body shop weld on a new piece of metal etc, whats the approx cost (there is no rust anywhere else but here)

I wouldn't bother, there's other deals out there with much less rust, or rust in easier to fix places.

What do you want to do with it and how much is the rig going for?

I bought my '89 for 1300, couse it was a POS rust bucket and I was lookign for a trail rig. That rust is nothing a sawzall and the convertable lifestyle could not fix, which would be perfect for glamis. Now. if you want a pimpin 60 (should prolly get an 80 anyways) that prolly is not the correct starting point.

Your skill should also be taken into this caclulation, can you cut and weld?

I've got similar rust on my Cruiser. As long as the rust doesn't effect the structural integrity of the roof you can use bondo or whatever and fill in the damage, or have someone else do it for $500-1000. If the rust effects the structural integrity of the roof, as it does in mine, that is not an option because the resulting movement of the roof will crack the filler.
Another option is a new roof skin, very expensive. The part is $1700 and labor is another $1000, not including painting.
I've opted to fix the roof myself by cutting out where the roof skin connects to the roof, brazing on metal in the shape of the piece I'm cutting out, and then attaching the repaired roof skin to the roof as usual. Apparently it's just glued on with sealer. By the way, just to clarify, you could remove the entire roof skin and the truck still wouldn't leak into the cab - the actual roof is underneath the rusted roof skin.

from the looks of that one spot, the paint looks shot, seat cover probably mean the seats are in bad shape, mirrors are differnt, the a/c vent looks broken..... unless the motor and suspension are new... $500.00
