Hey everyone!

I am an 80 owner, but the wife found a 2007 GX 470 she likes. We need something bigger than her 2015 Grand Cherokee.

A couple questions:

- It has adjustable suspension. Is there a way to remove all this if it goes bad? I don't need/want this, nor would we want to pay to fix it. Assume it can all just be taken out?
- How bad are the timing belts?
- The rig is going for $16k here. Seems about $2k over market. Thoughts?

Anything else we should know before jumping into a 120?

Thank you!!

Yes, its easy to remove the rear air suspension and convert to coils. Entry level coils, springs, and conversion kit for all 4 wheels starts at $1000 and goes up to $3500 depending on what you want. Maybe more if you go crazy

I agree on the higher price, but the thing is clean and checks out. All dealer serviced with records.

OK, I am an idiot. I posted THE WRONG vehicle. The one we want is here. Sorry!!!

Then it’s probably worth the premium if it was dealer serviced. Depends on your area also, some have a lot less inventory overall. So it’s worth paying a little more for a good one. For me, I can find them all day in central, Florida now. When I bought a few years ago, I couldn’t hardly find one though that wasn’t overpriced or neglected

Seems a little high. I'd check out the aftermarket switch in the lower console. Also, center diff lock has been moved to the driver switch panel and an AUX something put in it's place. So definitely some tinkering took place, hopefully by a qualified tinker. New alternator is nice. Timing belt should have been replaced around 100k.

Good eye!!!

I believe that’s a negative info on the switches. Those in the 2007 look right and are stock. They were factory changed from the original location in the 2003. My 2003 has cdl switch where 2007 has aux. there’s no thinkering with cdl nor aux switches.

Looks clean. I’ll second Homer. Those switches are in the correct (factory) positions for the model year (2007-2009). No tinkering as far as I can see.

And yes, make sure the timing belt was changed around 90k. Check the transfer case locker for oil leaks. Check the bottom of the radiator for crust signaling a leak. Listen for a tick in the exhaust from cracked manifolds (can be tough to hear in warm weather).

Register the VIN on lexus.drivers.com to see the maintenance records.

I agree with most of the things said here...it’s a little high for the mileage. However, I had this thought: I was looking for a land cruiser, 4Runner or Tacoma when I discovered the GX470. Simply put the gx was cheaper than all those Toyota’s which I found weird. I got the gx and thought it was such an awesome vehicle I bought another one. I had this weird feeling that I’d stumbled upon a “secret vehicle” that hadn’t caught on in the off-road world—maybe an anti-luxury vehicle stigma in the off-road community? Either way, those other Toyota’s have a knack of increasing in value (or at least holding value) which is the opposite of what 95% of cars do. Perhaps the Lexus is catching on and people are realizing just how capable it is and MAYBE prices are going to start creeping up instead of down....or maybe I’m crazy and this dealer is simply asking too much but I have seen them with under 100k miles list for around $18k here in Colorado. More sometimes.

You are all awesome. Thanks for the info. We are going to look at it tonight. I think we put a deal together on paper they have agreed to. At $15k.

ac Issue?^
I saw it too on the info screen.

Club lexus had a write up about the ac filter being installed incorrectly as leading cause of the issue. I will look once we get there to drive the rig.

I stand corrected, thanks Homer & Arailt. Most of my time has been spent in an 04 and an 05, I didn't realize the switches changed. But that other switch in the lower center console doesn't look OEM.

It might be the Relay too. If it is simple your good to go. If a issue, maybe a little bargaining room?

Ah, you’re right. I didn’t see that little silver push button switch on my phone. That’s definitely not factory. Tinkering indeed!

I will chime in and say that GXs are creeping up here in the Utah area. The word is definitely out around here (I blame/thank Cruiser Outfitters here in SLC!), and I would say that 1 in 3 GX I see on the road are modded in some way to leave the pavement. That being said, you may find room to negotiate since the vehicle's electronics are not stock.
