Hey folks, I broke one of my wheels studs today on my front PS wheel. My question is, Is it still safe to drive around with 1 broken wheel stud? or NO. Can't get them replaced until next week. That's because of this dam thing called running a business.

I searched this forum for answers, but it doesn't really say much. How long does it take to replace one of these things anyway?

If it were just the one stud then the other 5 will hold, have seen people do it for years (not me) but if one broke then the others on that wheel that received the same abuse (likely over tightening) are suspect and now carrying the extra load of the missing one, I have also seen the aftermath of a wheel coming off a highway speeds from over tightening. Not good

Get a rental; write it off as a business expense. Not worth the risk.

i've had an ongoing problem with broken wheel studs. somewhere in my rig's previous life those damn things must have been reallys crewed down tight. i've been short one (at one time or another) on each wheel. never two, thankfully.

i wasn't ever overly concerned, but i did secure a remedy as quickly as possible. also, i took corners slower and tried to take is easy.

when i lose one, i order six plus the one lug nut and do the whole set. the labor is in gaining access to the bolt, not in replacing it. replace them all, as soon as possible. $0.02.

[edited for pathetic spelling and grammar]

IMO, one stud from 6 is not a big deal, and even two non-adjacent studs wouldn't bother me....one of our area events requires you have a minimum of 4 of 5/6 or 5 of 8 functioning (amazingly, I know idiots who run 4 of 8 and simply "glue" a dummy nut on to pass tech......)

however, buying 6 and replacing them should be a top priority....

Had one break awhile back and drove it for a day until I could get it fixed. Made it OK. I did however avoid freeway speeds until it was fixed. Start using anti-seize compound on the threads.

Yeah i was just concerned because the DS wheel came off before on the freeway. He was shaken but not stirred, the mechanic who fixed the 80 said "Man this is one tough SOB of a truck". It took damage to the brake rotor and some studs came off flying, but after $300 of paying the mechanic it was back on the road again.

I'll take some time out and replace them as a set tomorrow.
