Is it OK to heat aluminum?

Hey Guys,

My rockbox is stuck together and I am wondering if it is safe to heat it up a bit to get the seal broken. I might be able to fab some type of puller, but I am worried about stressing the threads.

If you heat too much you could soften the metal.Try working your way around it first with a good dead blow hammer.(Plastic)
Then a puller would be best.

Thanks StraightJacket. I ended up pulling the tranny with the rock box still attached. Once it was out of the 40 it was a lot easier to work on. My dad loves to muscle stuff, so he had fun. So ended up being a good weekend. Tcase, rock box and SM465 out and ready to be dropped off at different places.

SM465 is going to Anaheim Gear for Rebuild.
Rock Box is Going to AA to make sure it is 100%
Tcase needs to get to Mark's Off Road when I can find the time to drive out there.

Pops is going to take Trans and rockbox for me, but I want to see Mark's place first hand.
