Ok kittly lovers out there... is dog food really bad for cats? The cat we brought home and adopted the other day, Otis is his name now, steals Tater's (the dog we rescued in the spring) food every chance he gets.

Right now Otis has swamp ass (the runs) but I think it is cause everyone in my mom's neighborhood was feeding him and no one knew what the other was giving the cat. I hope the dog food doesnt further the swamp ass fun. I hide it from him but man, the dog has to eat sometime...

When they're really hungry my cats will snack on the dog's food. Hasn't seem to hurt them, but they don't seem to like it much so they don't pig out. Just a kibble or two.

The strays Ive picked up will eat like horses for a few days till they figure out that the foods not going anywhere.
Feed the cat dry food to help with the swamp ass :D

Well we only have given him the dry cat food and no table food yet.

He really doesnt pig out with the dog food, but its like a person with Doritos, everytime he goes by he steals a few bits and it has go to add up!

actually it isn't bad for them at all, cat food contains alot more protien then dog foods, making cat food worse for dogs, then dog food is for cats!

So protein is bad for dogs? Isn't protein the major component of meat?

I think dogs are more omniverous then cats. Cats are purely meat eaters and their food is a bit "hot" for dogs and can cause kidney problems.

Cats

Feed him lead at 1000ft per second then you won't have to worry about cat food or swamp ass --------I know it's cruel but I hate them

It's not bad for them. it's not good for them to eat only dog food though.

Cats need taurine. If they don't get it in their diet, they will have seizures. Dog food does not contain taurine.

Actually, a lack of taurine will cause blindness in cats. We have seen cats who have only had access to dog food, and no hunting (mice, etc), and have developed blindness. Occasional dog food nibbling is ok, as their sole diet is not so bueno. And cat food is higher in protein than dog food, which over their lifetime, makes cats more prone to kidney disease.
