Ironman rear springs (Heavy 2inch), are they left/right specific?

Hi everyone,
Within the next two weeks I will put the rear Ironman 2 inch springs (heavy) on my 87 FJ60. I got the springs from ebay a long time ago, but now I have no clue if there is a left and right side spring? The only markings on the springs are numbers, 008267 and 008266? So I assume that there are left and right? How do I figure this out? Any ideas?

Thanks,
Zack

Save yourself some time and don't put them on, they are junk. They can be made a little better by removing a leaf or 3, greasing them up/teflon inserts or whatever, but are probably more suited to be turned into sword blades with a large hammer.
I have Ironman on my fj45 btw.

Why do you say that? Is the ride rough?

Zack I know FJ40Jim runs them ask him

I have the #####6 one on the driver side and the #####7 one on the passenger side and it sits level. I seem to recall when I put them on a year ago, the #6 spring is slightly taller than the #7 spring (if you flip them over, eyes down). I should add they are installed on a fj60 and they are a bit stiff but much better than flat/almost inverted stock ones. To be honest I can only compare them with my old stock ones so I am not sure whether the bit stiff comment is a postive or a negative, but I do like them.

I am in the exact situation as you were, my stock springs are totally flat. What kind of springs do you have on the front? If they are the stock springs, how bad is the rake from front to back? With the two inch springs did you have to extend the rear brake lines?

Thanks,
Zack

-I have the heavies in the front too, however I need to remove a leaf in the front, as I do not have enought weight in the front to warrent the heavies (stock bumper, single battery, 2f) and the front springs ride stiffer than the rears.

-I took a couple of weekends to install the lift, and put in the rears first. If your front springs are pretty flat, you will have a noticable front to back rake.

-As for extending the brake lines, initially (for about a year) I got away with using the existing oem lines (shackles are stock length, or maybe a bit longer). I would tread lightly, as at full extension the stock lines are rather stretched, at least when you jack up the 60 using the frame. After I rebuilt the knuckles, I installed extended brake lines all around.

The drivers side spring should have 10mm more free camber (arch) in it according to some Ironman info that I have.

Wobble and sixties guy are right on the mark, 008267 is for the rear passenger side and 008266 is for the rear driver side, a touch more camber to compensate for the drivers weight. I've had mine on my BJ60 for a couple of years now (probably same e-bay sale, smokin' deal!!!!) and love them (tho' I have heard the had quality control issues on the 40 series springs). I always have a couple of hundred pounds of gear and dogs in the truck and they are a firm, comfortable ride with tons of load capability.

Zack,
I'm in Australia so this is just useless info. I just pulled out a full set of Ironman I ran for 60,000km in favor of OME and I can't believe I put up with them for that long. Now as smooth as silk and that's with 2000kg in tow.

Thanks everyone, I will take pictures, before and after. At this point the Ironman's will be better than I have. And the rake should not be that bad because the front springs have life in them. I think they were replaced at some point. So at the moment the front is higher than the rear of my 60.

i also scored the $500 to my door deal from ebay. easy install and a much improved ride. yes, stiff. i was well aware they were designed for expedition use and carrying heavy loads. i temporarily strapped a big ol bag of sand in back and it rides better. think of it as motivation to put front and rear bumpers, winch, and sliders on. those rock solid ones should be heavy enough.

good luck.

I have the same springs on mine and even with bumpers, sliders and soon a roof rack the rear haven't compressed. I really like the ride since it's not to bad.

Good luck.

Previous posters are right on the numbers, and it does matter to accommodate driver's weight.

I scored these for $500 as well and promptly Baja tested them. Rode from San Francisco to Bay of LA via the bad roads of Puertecitos. Had a awesome trip. Fully loaded with a rig of gear - the suspension behaved flawlessly. Drove 65mph on the washpan and it was smooth sailing. Only had 1 flat tire.

I've now had them on about 1.5 years and still feel the same way.

Put them on and enjoy. Slap a rear bumper on to load it up a little bit and you're stoked. Don't listen to the haters - they probably just don't use them to potential.

My ONLY critique is that I'd like to get some slightly longer shackles for the front as it is about 1" lower or so. I have an ARB bumper for reference.

I also have the ebay ironman kit. I second what the others have said. I've had no real problems with the springs and have had them loaded down pretty well numerous times. Like the others, the front sits lower than the back. But also I have a lean to the driver side and I believe i installed the springs correctly.

Zack, if you are just installing the rear springs; I think it might look pretty funky esp since you have stock front springs if I'm reading this right. Maybe new front springs should be next on your list.

Yes, I just have the rear springs. I missed the boat on the full Ironman kit, so I just have the rears. However I think at some point the fronts were replaced because they have a good amount of arch left in them, so my truck sits much higher to the front at the moment.

after you finish the rear, if the back is too tall, maybe an extended shackle up front would level it out...
