Every interface I've looked at for my 01 says I'd have to disconnect the 6 disc changer unit for it to work. Has anyone found an interface that lets you keep the 6 disc changer and have an aux / ipod input?

My 07 has a Ipod adapter that interrupts the signal from the console mounted DVD changer and shows all Ipod info on screen. It works seamlessly and allows you to switch between Ipod and Changer using radio controls. This is the model I use.

That ipodyourtoyota.com unit is from 03 onwards according to their site but thanks for the pointer. My 01 has an in dash radio/casette and a console changer, no nav, which is the other thing their site says is required.

My Dension has an additional plug on it to allow the changer or satelite radio hookup too. Basically a no net loss of functionality of other components.

Thanks for the tip, that looks like a good solution for me and it's even available from a UK seller who has a new sale :D

This it?

If that's it, a simple Google search yields USA Spec's website and:

Not listed as compatible with any LC and only '04 and newer LX.

Crutchfield is very good about their research, so when they say "there's no guide available" that means "this won't work with your vehicle". For a 1998 there's FM interface, Dension ICE link (no idea how those work), tape deck adapter, or swap out the deck.

I have one of these for sale if someone needs one. I replaced my factory radio with a NAV system and no longer need it. It doesnt come with the Ipod adapter but i have everything for either a Sirus ther a or XM system.

i will post it up on Mudbay today or tomorrow. Just thought i would throw it out that i will be for sale.

I wish I would have known that two weeks ago...

Oh well, I installed it yesterday and I'm happy so far. Really easy to install and keeps me from being distracted.

First remove the dash face and then the radio. This unit takes the place of the factory 6 disc changer and plugs into the back of the radio where the changer would go.

I set up the unit and plugged in everything and tested things before going to far. Worked fine so I then started to drill some holes.

I pulled the console face off from around the shifter and found a harness to follow and keep the cord along the same route.

I drilled a 5/8 hole in the corner of the console and then fed the cable from the iPod to the converter box. The box found a nice home under the face in front of the shifter.

No power wires to run, and it charges your iPod for 20 minutes after you turn things off, and then shuts it self off. I'm looking for a nice hanger to mount inside the console to hold the iPod now. But this will work for now.

The unit came with a note about not working with iPhones, iTouch, and one other model, but had a form to send in for a free upgrade cable to work with those units. It shows a disc 7, but that is direct mode and I wondered how it would read 4000 songs. It displays up to 99 and then rolls over to 1 again and keeps going with all your songs. I was considering upgrading to a NAVI unit, but after hearing the iPod through the stock head, it's not bad. I'll save the money for speakers and see how that improves the sound more.

Campfire - Your description and photos of the install are a tremendous help. I've got a '99 UZJ100 as well, and would like to do exactly what you did. Can you describe how to remove the dash face around the radio? Also can you describe how you pulled the console face off from around the shifter?

Thanks for any help.

GCG UZJ100 - 1999, 155K miles. Beautiful vehicle!
